Assorted Twelve thoughts
Firstly, re. the female Doctor issue... We've had two so far. One in the Comic Relief Special The Curse of Fatal Death (incidentally Moffat's first outing writing DW, and a gem that never fails to entertain! If you've not see it, make it a priority). The other was played by Arabella Weir (one of David Tennant's BFFs, as it happens) in one of the audio adventures. So it's not unheard of.
Speaking of The Curse of Fatal Death, you are welcome to check out my theory, which means that Twelve will be Hugh Grant!Doctor. I don't have a problem with this. *g*
However, the main point of this post is another bit of headcanon:

di_br and her peerless vid: Tenth Doctor: The Musical. But of course Eleven couldn't sit all alone, could he? He has a family, after all. So, once Twelve's era rolls round, my 'reviews' will have a different flavour (I made a banner and everything. THEIR FACES!):

(Everyone's migrated to the sofa except for River who's not keen on fish custard, and also pleased to have the rest of the wine to herself.)
They'll do some kind of running commentary - not sure how detailed yet, but I'm sure I'll figure out a workable format. :) And don't worry, I'm sure there'll be meta too. But. Ponds watching Doctor Who? It's irresistible.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)... Meh. Just a thought.
I started writing a story about a year ago that would've been about Twelve examining his new body in a mirror, when Eleven appears in the mirror, saying he's in the Doctor-y afterlife and Ten's being a prat to him, and he'd like some extra help getting into his realm. Twelve agrees and telepathically follows him into the Doctor Retirement Realm.
I might finish it next year when Twelve is better established.

LOL! Although apparently Ten & Eleven get along rather well - but don't let details like that get in the way! It sounds great.
Alternatively, you could write a story about the Ponds & Ten...

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)The version of Ten in the story would've been from after EoT, so he's not managed to shuffle off his guilt from what he did and how he acted towards the end, particularly during WoM.
Found the file. Here's an excerpt:
The man behind the eighth door spoke up at last. “I’m afraid he hasn’t recovered.”
“You have. I doubt you arrived here in a dissimilar state. In fact, I would think you would’ve been worse off.”
Eight shuffled awkwardly. “Yes… Well, I had to make a terrible decision that was for the good of the universe as a whole, and therefore at the end of the day, I can find some sort of justification for my actions. He, on the other hand, made an unfortunately terrible decision just for himself and his own ends – our ends, I should say. We can’t justify his behavior.”
The Doctor nodded. “We’ve never been able to… The most we can do is live with the guilt and repent.”
“Exactly,” Eleven said quietly. “You and I have moved on and made new memories and had new experiences… But he’s just sat here and wallowed in self-pity, forever trying to justify his actions to himself.”

Indeed. Poor Ten. (Did you ever read my Hollow Men meta, btw? It's pretty much my final word on Ten.)
So bleak. So lost. Thank goodness for Eleven.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)I did read Hollow Men. Very good, and very depressing.
Of course, I intended my story to have a happy ending. Twelve would've helped to set Ten straight, and while Ten wouldn't immediately become happy and perky, he would've been on the road to recovery by the time it was over.

Thank you. :) (And since Ten actually quotes The Hollow Men, I figured that the parallels were deliberate... Well, Ten is tragic as hell, and Rusty likes that.)

I approve of this. It saddens me to think of Ten as eternally miserable.

"Listen, spaceman, I'm not going to pretend I'm not pissed as hell at you, but at the end of the day, you went out saving my granddad's life. So I'll waive my right to spend a few fun centuries kicking you right in the balls if you sit down, shut up for once, and listen to Sarah Jane."

I doubt that's the full story. They have to bicker first. Or perhaps even seriously fight.
Later in the episode, of course, they're having a lovely time and spouting catch-phrases at each other. Which is when Clara and Rose start having the the inevitable conversation:
"Does he still—lick things, though?"
"Oh, god, the licking things! What is that about?"
"I knoooow. It's like, Doctor, you don't know where that's been. You don't know what that even is. It could be poisonous. It could be alive. It could be someone's mum, and you just put your tongue on it! What are you, five?"
Not to mention that Clara probably has dirt on several previous Doctors, or at least got to notice various weirdnesses as they raced past, so they could some nice discussions on subjects such as "The Coat: What the Hell" or "Question Marks: Why?"

Rule One: The Doctor lie. Mostly I want Eleven to be old & condescending. >:)
"Oh, god, the licking things! What is that about?"
Totally. And Clara will definitely have dirt on the Doctor. Esp if Ten starts to be all self important. She'll deflate him in seconds. :)

I love Nine's reactions in Musical, and with the Ponds it'd be... everything times three. Or four, depending on Eleven. <3

I totally took it to mean that, yes! :)

Definitely four! And they could snark & make fun of Eleven & Rory could tell them to shut up, because he can't hear. It's going to be great!

Is it season eight yet?
When the Doc regenerates, his older self isn't gone, it just goes home and watches his current self on the TV
This is undeniably true.

Is it season eight yet?
No... And considering that they've yet to CAST Twelve, it could be a long time off.
ETA: Or not? Apparently they might announce him tonight as a Sunday paper has gotten hold of the name. (Ooooh, it's just like The Writers Tale...)

I shall prepare my OMG, IT'S SOME DUDE I'VE NEVER HEARD OF! reaction.

True. But then it takes them... 9 months to shoot a series? So we won't get anything until next autumn. :(
I shall prepare my OMG, IT'S SOME DUDE I'VE NEVER HEARD OF! reaction.
Unless it's Idris Elba. *g* Although according to the website they're not planning any official announcements today, so... *throws hands up* Who knows.

And yes. Yes, he would be with his Ponds. I refuse to believe anything else.

It suddenly all clicked together - because they're already dead, so they'll be there, waiting. <3

These people did not understand RTD... (Seriously though, that's hilarious.)

Looking at people's predictions is always hilarious. Sometimes they're right and that's interesting too, but mostly they're just so funny.

Rusty is Rusty. He tried his best to be jolly with Doctor Who, but...
