Recs & meta whilst avoiding DW spoilers.

Am procrastinating, being sleepy and still feeling the effects on my cold. And since my head is FULL OF THE DOCTOR AND RIVER SONG, I shall inflict stuff on you. :) Well as much as I can manage before I fall asleep or forget how to type.

First of all [livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior's new vid: Tick Tock, Goes the Clock. (Description: Tick tock, goes the clock, even for the Doctor. Spoilers up to - and including! - 6.12) It's like a whole segment of my brain all bundled up into 1.30 minutes...

Also, #1 Crush by Garbage could very well be the MOTHER of all Doctor/River songs. I sincerely hope someone will make a big shiny vid to it after the finale. (Youtube/Lyrics.)

I would die for you
I would kill for you
I would steal for you
I'd do time for you
I would wait for you
I'd make room for you
I'd sail ships for you
To be close to you
To be a part of you
'Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
I would die for you.

(By the way, did no one like part 2 of my fic? Maybe I mislabelled it. It's not fluffy, angsty crack, it's meta-as-fic, trying to explore Doctor/River and their different outlooks, catch-22s, the problems of needing to save people, marriage vows and what they mean - with the Doctor's death quietly ticking away in the background. I just chose to wrap it up in River/Doctor/Marilyn Monroe, which is fluffy and cracky and angsty... *is sad that no one else likes Marilyn* Or maybe my writing is just too weird. That's entirely possible.)

ETA: OK, a little bit of meta regarding the arc this season. Funnily enough semi-inspired by my Angel meta.

Just remember one thing: NO SPOILERS for the finale, OK?

Now the heart of AtS S5 is the fact that Angel decides to take control of his own story. Throughout the show he's been manipulated and screwed around by Wolfram & Hart and The Powers That Be. The way he decides to seize control over his own narrative is a bone of contention in fandom, but there's no doubt something needed to be done, or he'd just be Destiny's whipping boy forever.

ANYWAY. Doctor Who. Can I go back to my review of DoTM?

YOU SEE? I WAS RIGHT! What I didn't know at the time that it was the Silence who had been re-writing the Doctor's story, even creating a new character just for him. Back then I thought that River's timeline had been broken because of the re-write. But it's the other way around: Her existence (the woman who kills the Doctor) is what re-wrote the story. Kovarian & co made a story about an impossible astronaut who would kill the Doctor... and the Doctor and River have to follow the script laid out for them.

So, my 'prediction' (using the term very loosely) for the finale is that the Doctor will take control of his own story again. I don't know HOW, but it'll all be about his role within the narrative I think, drawing on everything he has learned this season. (Not to mention River of course... They're mirrors, two sides of the same coin. Who will change what is going to be interesting to see.)

And now I really am nearly asleep. Any other clever thoughts I had are all gone...
