Are there dailies for 'As You Were'? I've been reading through the (shooting) script, which has a few points that I really, really wish had been incorporated.
One is from the Bronze scene with Willow and Dawn:
Willow notices something.
WILLOW (cont'd)
Don't move. Don't look. Just
letting you know -- cute guy,
checking you out.
DAWN
Headed this way?
A CUTE GUY, maybe sixteen, walks up to Dawn.
CUTE GUY
Hi. You're Dawn, right? Taylor.
We have bio together ...
DAWN
You sit in the back and don't talk
much but draw cartoons and
sometimes wear these really cool
cowboy boots.
(beat)
Not that I noticed.
CUTE GUY
Do you ... want to dance?
DAWN
(casual)
Sure. I could do that.
The Cute Guy smiles and leads Dawn to the dance floor. Dawn plays it cool, but turns when the guy's not looking to give Willow a big "Oh My God!" face. Willow sneaks her a thumbs up. Dawn starts to dance with the guy, music building ...
Any fanfic writers: There's Dawn's boyfriend if you want one :)
One omission from the script that I was happy about was that Sam was supposed to have been a doctor. Maybe they realised that that would have been overkill? Anyway, there's a great description in the script of the 'What are you doing with my husband' scene:
Sam puts her hands on her hips and raises one eyebrow, awaiting her answer.
Buffy looks shocked.
Riley looks married.
Heh.
The other scene (and the one I was hoping there might be a daily for) is the very end:
BUFFY
-- and it's killing me. I have to
be strong about this.
he looks on the verge of another sly comeback, but she puts her hand to his face.
BUFFY (cont'd)
I'm sorry, William.
Buffy turns -- and walks out. We can see her strength in her face. It's painful -- and fragile -- but strength all the same.
Spike stands in the crypt, alone.
And we hold on his face as he takes in the truth of this. It's over. It's final. And Spike, without moving, gets hit fully and hard by the Thunderbolt...
BLACK OUT
Because Damn JM would have played that so heart breakingly perfect! And the hand to his face.... ::wails::

And yes, those additional scenes should have made it into the final cut. Less Riley & Sam and more Spuffy would have been my call.

I don't HATE the episode, but I really am *very* annoyed about it. Although there's a Sam POV fic that reconciled me to the character - I can try to find it if you like?

Very un-Jossian, I thought.
The episode works okay as meta but that doesn't stop it being a very poorly constructed mess in lots of ways.

Anyway, I've read two excellent posts on the ep. This is one of them. I can go looking for the other one if you like?

Liked that one, made Sam tollerable to me, and showed her like much less of the Mary Sue she was onscreen.

I think he just head-over-heels in love with Marc Blucas (however you want to interpret love) and really, really wanted to make him look James Bond-y and cool.
Don't worry about searching for the posts. I know I've read a terrific write-up of that episode. Maybe it was

It was very helpful!

And yes,

It's a sort of FitB - basically Sam and Buffy's thoughts during the ep. Here'e the first paragraph:
Meeting your husband’s ex-girlfriend is enough to make any woman nervous, but add in the fact that she’s also 1) his first love, and 2) perfect, and you’ll find yourself turning into a quivering mass of insecurities.
It really is a superb fic (apart from taking the whole 'Spike is The Doctor' at face value. But thankfully that bit is short).
And it is now midday here and lovely sunshine! :) Many good wishes for your day too!

The scene with the boy chatting Dawn up looks cute though!

Meh. Stupid Dough Petrie. But thank you so much for looking - that's very sweet of you!
And I like Taylor. There should be fanfic!

I don't understand why the hand to the face was taken out. Was it too affectionate? (affectionate scenes really help people relate more to Buffy)
Sometimes I do have to wonder why they allowed Spike to be so sympathetic and Buffy to be harsh, especially when there is opportunity after opportunity not to do so. (and we are told during the season that we aren't getting the storyline--that Spike is bad bad bad)

(Usually I'm very happy with canon - this is possibly the only bit where I'd change things.)

The most curious thing about it for me, is that the eps are continually *written* like that, then those scenes were taken out or subtly changed. If it were only one script, you'd figure they just changed their minds and decided to go a different direction... But that doesn't seem to be the case. S7, for instance, the S/B scenes are toned down from the shooting script in every episode from Sleeper all the way up to and including Chosen. And it's not even limited to the B/S, the scene near the end of Beneath You where Xander warns Anya of what Buffy might have to do was pretty damned important, IMO, why cut it out?
I just don't know.

He really would have. That's just the kind of thing he excelled at. Woe for the missed opportunity!
The Willow/Dawn scene would have been alot of fun. Pity they cut it.

I figured it was always Marti Noxon's kink and story instincts winning out over her ostensible commitment to Spike-as-bad-boyfriend. That and Sarah/James screen chemistry.
Which is good. Because stories that grow organically and live a life of their own are potentially great while stories whose details are forced into a formula are just like all the other crap on teevee. And sometimes you get wonders like spuffy that would never have been planned the way they happened.

There was a scene like that? Really? I looked up the script and couldn't see it (but then a lot of the end was changed...)
Anyway, goodness knows what was going on. Although as

Thing is, mostly I love what made it onto screen - and for the rest there is fanfic! :)

That's it - it's not even the Spuffiness - it's the lost Spike scene... *sigh*
And Dawn with a potential boyfriend... oh the possibilities!

And I never thought we were supposed to think that Spike was the Doctor - but that's a different post. Look out for it on... uh Monday?

This actually reminded me of a snippet from
'I like Season 6. I love the complexity, the – angularity, I guess - of some of the plot developments. I love the way one story, in particular, seemed to break out of whatever theme it was supposed to be getting across, and gave us television as riveting and as gut-wrenching as television dares to be, and acting – and, especially, interacting – that was occasionally sublime. I make no claim that everything there is planned and plotted. It's there, that's the beauty of it, but I’m not saying all of it was put there.'
So yeah, I agree! :)

Really? Including Taylor? I'd love to see that. ;)
I've got a few dailies, but I've never had the time (or patience) to watch them all...

But I'm missing the romantic sex in the crypt, and the final break-up. Bah
I'm supposed to have 4 discs for it, and the 4th disc had OAFA on it. Hmm. Maybe I never got send the right disk then, and that scene is included on someone's dailies.

I was going to order those dailies, but reading that don't include the final Spuffy scene makes me wonder what other Spuffy scenes they may have left out in favor of Riliey and Sam screen time.
