GIP and Green Wing
Firts of all: I made an icon! Isn't it pretty? It'll never happen again, so I'm pleased it turned out OK. (I stole the picture from
jamalov29 - I hope that's OK Caroline?)
And then of course last night I watched 'Green Wing'. I've not looked at my flist yet, so I have no idea what other people thought. But here's my reaction.
But it is Saturday and I'll need to do stuff and spend time with the family and all that. Will do my best to catch up on comments. *smooches to you all*

stoney321 something to make you laugh! :)
And then of course last night I watched 'Green Wing'. I've not looked at my flist yet, so I have no idea what other people thought. But here's my reaction.
First of all: Poor Mac. Never seems to catch a break - and now he's dying? Also he was written a bit oddly... Actually a lot of things seem to be getting a little too ludicrous, including Sue's cub (?????) and the 'van-hanging-over-a-cliff'. Of course all good entertainment, but it did feel like the writers were losing the plot.
But of course the BIG stuff is Caroline and Guy! (I never said so, but Jake was a complete freak, if impossibly nice - no man should wear an alice band! And when he revealed that he'd kept his Tamagotchi for 12 years I yelled at her to run away - fast!) Aaaaanyway, I've loved what they've done with Guy. Of course the character is wonderful (always going for the crudest thing possible), and you know exactly where you've got him - in a way he's very, very childish, always focussing on personal gratification. And then he falls in love and of course no one takes him seriously - classic 'boy who cried wolf'! But he tries so hard, and sometimes does well and sometimes fails, because - well he's an idiot. ::pets Guy::
So I absolutely loved the ending! Sorry all you Mac/Caroline shippers who might have been throwing stuff at the screen - but in all his idiocy and sweetness, Guy is a hairsbreath away from Spike - if Guy thought that chaining Caroline up might help his cause, I could totally see him do it. Couldn't you?
Heh.

Thank you! :)

I felt that, especially having watched the last two eps back to back.
Sorry all you Mac/Caroline shippers who might have been throwing stuff at the screen
Well, that'll be me then :D I don't hate Caroline/Guy though, and that bit was done really nicely, I loved that train station scene and it just had to have been Mac who got Guy to go there so both he and Caroline could be happy (self sacrificing to the end).
I was more disappointed at the fact they gave Mac a terminal illness, because as eye candy goes he's one of the best. *loves Mac*
Also he was written a bit oddly..
Maybe his tests revealed a brain tumour and they were trying to indicate this in his behaviour? I loved the way the other doctor just sat there clinging on to his notes, just hoping Mac would grasp what he was trying to say.

Oh that's a lovely thought - I really like that. And I also loved how defeated Guy was - something like 'I wanted to see what I could have had if I'd been ginger'. Actually the way he realised that the whole love thing was something he wasn't good at ("Love is... waking up at night.... that's how far I've got."), which contrasted so nicely with how cock-sure he always was.
*loves Mac*
Oh me too! I think it's sadly one of those times when they bent the character to the story and not the other way round. And how could they have test-results if he hadn't done any tests? Or at least hinted at tests or something? Not too happy at all.
Although Mac patting the doctor's leg was a wonderful touch.

That same doctor did tests on him when he came back to work, way back in episode 2 or 3, so I assume they are results from then.

But thank you - that makes a lot of sense. Maybe the falling off a cliff had bad repercussions...

Mmmm, Mac. (It's the hair that does it for me, rather than the cheek bones, btw)

I liked bits of it lots (what's not to love in Boyce/Statham/Joanna snoggage, or Rachel and her mobile phones, or the cupboard sex and the splinter). But overall I found myself wanting to love it, because I love the show so much, but on the whole feeling disappointed. Yes, OK I ship Caromac, but it wasn't down to that (not totally, anyway!).
It was all - odd. I know Green Wing is by definition odd, but... So much left me with a WTF? feeling. I didn't like Mac or Caroline in this episode, which is odd, given the emapthy the writers have been building up for the two of them. I mean, on paper I'd have been a Guy/Carloine shipper (underdogs and bad-boys-doing-good generally being my thing), but it was Caroline and Mac I was drawn too.
The worst of it was, naturally, Mac's story. I mean, the man's a surgeon. If he were that ill, wouldn't he have noticed? Nah - felt it lost the plot a bit. Still, there's episode 9/the Christmas special to come. The writers did good up until last night. Maybe they'll pull it round.
Guy is a hairsbreath away from Spike
Guy is SO not Spike!!! No way! Well, maybe tiny ways. Although he did turn out to be a bit of a sweetie in the end :) However - he's more your Riley. Rebound!man. I'm willing to be proved wrong by a third series, though.
*crosses fingers*
But not without Mac.

I think the problem with the Mac/Caroline story was that they tried to fit the characters to the story, rather than the other way round - and Mac changed for no apparent reason, which was annoying.
Re. the mystery illness, then
And my Spike-comparison was only very lose - don't worry! There's layers to Spike, whereas I have a feeling Guy might possibly have just 2! *g*
Anyway, I did like the ending (the train station part), it just felt so sweet. The Mac part was majorly WTF? though. At least I have a suitable icon. ;)
What are you making of Doctor Who btw?
no subject
Yes, didn't he? I've heard two theories on that one - that it's a symptom of his illness (brain tumour?), or that it isn't real and he hasn't woken from his original coma (for which, come to think of it, we never really had a good explanation, did we?). Yes, I remember him seeing the doctor earlier in the series - but they let him go back to work...
*shrugs*
I'm in danger of getting as analytical on this as I was on Buffy!
Anyway, I did like the ending (the train station part), it just felt so sweet.
It was sweet - but I kind of liked Guy and I'm not convinced Caroline was truly in love with him, and it wasn't just a reaction to Mac not turning up. Her attitude was just... off. But then, the whole episode was slightly off, despite a few choice moments.
I'll stop whinning now :)
What are you making of Doctor Who btw?
I'm not, to be honest. Number 1 child threw a complete wobbler after the cat nurse-plague victim episode which meant I didn't get any sleep for a week, so it's banned in our house. I could tape it, but I keep forgetting. Which maybe says something about how drawn (or not) I feel to it. I'd NEVER have missed taping Buffy. Surprising - I like DT so I thought I'd be more bothered.
So, what do you think of it? Is it worth getting the DVD's?

See this is why I just kept to the stuff I liked! I flatly refuse to get caught up analysing a show where the characters give themselves coffee enemas (although that was *hysterical*! The man is a genius!).
I'm not convinced Caroline was truly in love with him, and it wasn't just a reaction to Mac not turning up.
There is that. But then I'm not even sure she was in love with Mac anymore. Bleh. At least she knew what she was signing up for with Guy! ;)
Number 1 child threw a complete wobbler after the cat nurse-plague victim episode
Ah yes. Impish Girl doesn't like the show full stop (and also she's only 4 and *much* too small), and although Little Miss M likes the idea of the show, she's not that keen in reality and hasn't seen it since ep.2. Thank fully Telewest now has 'replay' which means we can watch it anytime during the following week, so now it's just a Darcy-and-me thing. Because I totally forget when it is on - my brain can obviously only remember to watch ONE tv show a week, and at the moment that's House. I even kept forgetting 'Green Wing'. Stupid brain.
Now is Ten worth getting? Hmmm, the first two episodes were decent, but not much more. The third had ASH (and OMG but he was *fabulous*!) and was very enjoyable. The fourth I utterly, utterly adored, although some people thought it weak (apparently they were bothered by plot-holes - in a SF show?) and others turned into mad shippers. It's fun to witness! The fifth (last week's) was entertaining and ended on an excellent cliffhanger. So... not sure. If I was you I'd borrow them off someone! *g* But DT is *very* yummy and his doctor is extremely watchable!
