Finally saw Doctor Who! Liked the first two episodes well enough, but... not that bothered. This one? Oh yeah! That's the show I love. :) And ASH was *so* good! ::takes hat off::

*sigh* I'm such a shipper.... although I think it's desperately unfair that Buffy takes so much flak for one little kiss, when Rose strings both of her fellas along with no problems.

Except that Buffy is so much more about the ship than Dr Who ever should be.

It's going to be fun watching how Rose copes with two men in tow.

Yes, Buffy is a very, very shippy show!

And it was so funny watching how petulant Rose suddenly became when Mickey decided to come along! *g*

I just hope they don't kill off Mickey. Lots of people don't like him but he's actually my favourite character.

Oh dear that hadn't even occurred to me! But I don't think so - and if they do, then they'll probably wait for the finale.

ASH was superb! From that first shot of his hand you could just tell that something was *off*! I will have to re-watch tonight I think... (also the children haven't seen it yet - and you shouldn't leave them to watch TV alone, should you? *g*)

I'm new to Dr Who-- I've just been happily watching Dr 9. But (and please correct me if I'm wrong)isn't Dr who supposed to not be a shipper show? I was told he isn't actually allowed to have a romance with his companion by a friend who's an old Dr fan.

I do have to say that #9 seems to me to have a lot of chemistry w/ Rose!

As far as I've heard, the old Doctor Who was very non-shippy. This new one however is a different thing altogether! Bring spoon for lapping up sub text. :)

The problem with a 'romance' is of course the same one as in B/A f.ex.: he's immortal, she's not. So there are an awful lot of *feelings*, but knowing that it can't go anywhere sort of stops much from happening... keep watching - the chemistry really is spectacular!

Ah-hah! That does make more sense. My Dr Who source is an old-time fan, and decidedly not a shipper in any of his shows. He was surprised when Buffy and Spike got together in season 6 of BtVS though; so pretty clueless about stuff like that!

Oldskool Whovians were appalled when RTD resurrected Doctor Who and both he and Chris went on record to declare that the relationship between the Doctor and his companion Rose could be characterised 'love'. The show originated in the 60s when the Doctor was an older, superior being and more of a teacher of mankind rather than a friend, and sex/shipping really didn't come into it. Fans were convinced that the Doctor was completely asexual, in spite of the fact that his first companion was supposedly his granddaughter...There was an uproar when the Eighth Doctor kissed his female helper in the 1996 TV-movie, and the idea that the Doctor could ever fall for one of his companions was anathema to a lot of people.

Of course, there were certain rules that Time Lords were supposed to live by (non-interference being the most important, like Startrek's Prime Directive), but the Doctor has always been a bit of a rebel, and now that he's the last of his kind as well, who's to say he might not form a romantic attachment to a human at last? After all, he's half-human himself, or so the Master discovered in the Doctor Who-movie...

Ah! Light dawns! I missed out on oldskool Who. I mean I knew it existed, but my family didn't have television when i was growing up so my who knowledge is primarily from a friend who's folks allowed him to watch TV... Thanks so much for filling the blanks!
