OK, this is just too bizarre not to pass on...

Someone is trying to sell their Star Wars fanfic on Amazon! See for yourselves!

(Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] harmonyfb for the link!)

There's already a betting pool on how long it'll take for Lucas' lawyers to swoop and Amazon to delete the page. I guess she co-owns an independent press? She'll be lucky if she's not sued right out of her livelihood.

Bwahahaha! the stupidity! Also, cousinjean can be topped!

I read a little. Clunky writing, full of names and statistics - much the sort of thing a bright teenage fanboy might produce. Quite possibly better than Lucas's own writing, which is not hard, but not actually any good. After two pages I lacked the strength to go on to a third. That good.

Crazy woman. Has she no clue, not even of any sort?

The best part is that she wants $20 a copy!!! ROFLMAO!

The second best part is that I get to say hello to you. Hellooooooooooooo. ::waves::

Well, George's lawyers will soon be introducing her to the dark side of the law.

I love the first comment in the Amazon forum for the book, "George Lucas is going to eat your face!"

BWAH!

I wonder if she got married? I really liked her writing, but, boy, was she confused... the reactions were cinge-worthy though. And downright mean. *sighs at fandom*

Actually this is not the first fanfic I've seen being sold on Amazon, and there's some stuff that ends up on on that site that seems to be part of library collections, it's downright odd.

But the part that really caught my attention? How are all those "used and new" alternate sellers coming up with copies? "Scuffing from shelf wear on covers." Whahuh? Do they simply attach their names to any book out there whether they have it or not?

Oh good grief!

I didn't spot the price. I was just gobsmacked at the effrontery of trying to sell it at all.

I'm astonished Amazon's lawyers didn't pick up on the implications of this.

Yes she's doing Ok and keeps on writing original stuff. She's also going to get married in September.
Poor Cousinjean indeed. Having to say goodbye to the fandom like this when she was such a brilliant writer..:(

Yes it's a shame, her fanfictions were terrific.

What is more, if I understand the stats, she's actually sold some books:

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #34,166 in Books (See Top Sellers in Books)
Yesterday: #39,951 in Books

- unless Amazon has deleted a lot of books from their lists overnight. I cannot understand why it's still up for sale there. By now surely Lucas's lawyers have contacted them?

How bizarre!

Very. I came across this by accident when I came up as an author on Amazon. It was a library community study I did back in graduate school. So far as I know there are only 3 copies, each of them in a different library collection. How on earth that got listed on Amazon I'd like to see someone explain.

It's gone now. About time.
