Just watched the B/A scenes at the beginning of 'Chosen' (for re-search purposes). And Buffy is just so... dunno - melancholy. I never saw the 'someday' as a 'B/A forever OMG!' - more that she hardly ever allows herself to dream of her future. Because it's very unlikely that she'll have one. ::hugs Buffy::

ETA: Something also struck me about Angel (specifically his thing about not letting Buffy wear the pendant) - I think a part of him was just desperate to finish it all - go out in a blaze of glory and not have to live with the consequences of his choices.

Oh I'm glad it makes sense! :) And it's only after she tells him to go, that he gets all petty (about Spike).

Ironic (and lucky for Angel) then that Buffy and Spike rescue him from the Senior Partners' plan to trap him inside that amulet and bind him irrevocably to Wolfram and Hart forever.

Because if joining WR&H was bad, and being free agent ghost was miserable, imagine being permanent CEO ghost with the Senior Parners blocking any freeing mojo and your only access to the world being through folks like the WR&H assault team Angel 'fired' in Conviction. Pavayne might have had a willing sacrifice.
