I almost said I don't know how to describe this, but that would be wrong - it's poetry, quite literally.

Technically I guess it's fic, since it's set within the Buffy 'verse, but it can easily be read with no knowledge of anything Buffy related - just two former lovers, meeting again many years later, snippets of life alluded to, joys and sorrows and time passing. And it's poetry.

It's Easy to be Noble (when you're not) in Constantinople

Summary: It's that blue-haired meeting in Istanbul, mentioned in 'New Moon Rising'; only they're in Italy, and it's twenty years to the day after the laundry room scene from 'Hush'.

500 words of AU Xander/Jesse (PG) - and not what you'd expect, I guarantee it!

How about we don't let anymore straight white men near Doctor Who for like... the next 50 years?

Because tonight's episode was both written AND directed by women and it was great. Like, 'proper' Doctor Who, could sit comfortably in any season. Easily the best one so far. Good plot, great guest star/historical celebrity, good villain, stuff to make the children hide behind the sofa... Where has this show BEEN for the past many weeks? (Rhetorical question, and disabling comments as I shouldn't be here at all...)

TIBERIAN THOUGHTS – Sheffield Steel, or a Subjective Look at the Thirteenth Doctor #7: “Kerblam!”

This might be the most indepth take so so far. And the most... brutal, I think. The conclusion *burns*.

The thing is, I am easy to please. It takes a lot to genuinely offend me (when it comes to TV), and Kerblam! managed it.

In happier news, I watched 'The Twin Dilemma' this afternoon and it was DELIGHTFUL. <3 (Haters to the left.) All the love for Six. Gimme a Doctor who is arrogant, doesn't give a crap about niceties and is happy to destroy the bad guys, it's like balm to my soul. :D

(I am really REALLY hoping the S11 finale does something drastic. Otherwise I am going to seriously doubt my commitment to Sparkle Motion.)

Mr Blobby appeared on Loose Women to discuss Brexit

[profile] classics_lover - you totally called it.

From the article: This was obviously just a bit of fun, but there was something weirdly dystopian about this segment. Almost as if we had already plunged out of the EU years ago and have been reduced to nostalgia acts who masquerade as political experts in an attempt to make the nation feel better about their impending doom.

And if there is any hope for any of us in this giant explosion in which we inhabit then surely that’s it:
Intellect and romance triumph over brute force and cynicism!

ETA: Doctor Who is turning 55, and Clara Oswald 32. :)

Kerk wrote a tiny little ficlet (a drabble & a half), and it's an exquisite and beautiful look at Gunn after the fade-to-black in Not Fade Away:

SCARVES AND CELERY – The System is the Problem: A Critique of “Kerblam!”
It would have been easy for Doctor Who to overthrow space Amazon.

In some ways, that’s what makes “Kerblam!” one of, if not the, best put together episodes of series 11 so far. That’s also why I hated it, and found it the most morally repugnant Doctor Who episode I’ve ever watched. Here’s where my take may just diverge a little: the things that make it morally repugnant might just make it the best critique of neoliberal capitalism Doctor Who has ever made.

ETA: And here is El Sandifer: Kerblam! review

By the way, allow me to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly recommend the Seventh Doctor if you are starved for something... more. Longer stories than modern Who, but (surprisingly?) diverse casting, excellent writing (except for a couple of episodes) and interesting narratives - some of whom give Moffat Who a run for their money in their complexity and unusualness. (Totally a word.)

Also Ace! Really, she is enough of a reason on her own. (Seven starts off with Mel who is lovely, but Ace is a cut above.)

So, it was Children in Need and I vaguely wondered if there would be something Doctor Who related, and then forgot again.

Then this morning I discovered that there was a preview of tonight's episode, Kerblam!

Here be spoilers! :D )

Anyway, am off out for the day, will catch up later. :)

Do you think if we shake S11 really hard we'll get more of the Doctor? Like, we're in the middle of a 55-year old character arc here. Bit keen to get back.

Info here: Iceland's Christmas TV advert banned for being too political .

Looks like it's going viral instead... And I figured I could do my tiny bit. (As far as I remember I have never set foot in an Iceland store, but this is a good initiative.)

I think that might have been the most Chibnall-y episode to ever Chibnall. Fabulously entertaining and fun and utterly ridiculous and PEOPLE and FAMILY and [redacted - i.e. the threat thing, which... *hands*].

A lot of character stuff for those that want to delve into it, Imma just gonna sit over here and chuckle to myself.
