I also love the notion that the Ponds are the fans: telling their own "Doctor stories," playing games, drawing pictures, dressing up, acting out roles, etc. I think beer_good_foamy was the first to come up with that... (Post here. Brilliant & highly recommended.)
Sometimes the plot messiness can make me grind my teeth (especially when a decent setup is squandered with a resolution involving little more than a rush of technical mumbo-jumbo and a wave of the sonic screwdriver) I... couldn't care less. I mean, unless there's actual inconsistencies that make stuff NOT POSSIBLE, I can easily look past any reversal of the neutron flow. :)
but the show is so rich on a symbolic and metaphorical level that it keeps drawing me back <3
If I were doing a degree in Media Studies, I think I'd write my doctoral (heh) thesis on Who. It really is that good. Oh absolutely. Buffy has been taught in universities for *years* now, it's that rich.
