Tonight's Merlin (5.08)

My daughters' comments. Had to share.

So, when Gwen goes 'Oh, Merlin went to see a girl', it cuts directly to Merlin and that boy [who betrayed him] in the woods... Cue Impish Girl: "And that's her! She's a boy, and his name is Sophie!"

Sophie of course dies very bravely, and Merlin can't go see him/her again on account of her being dead and what-not.

I sometimes wonder what it'd be like to watch this show with people who take it seriously. Afterwards (we were at my in-law's) my father-in-law asked whether Gwen would stop being evil soon, and the girls were like 'YES! That's what the trailer said!' and he shook his head and said that this was no good, he was just getting the hang of it...

So basically I enjoyed tonight's episode rather a lot. Hello shirtless!Arthur, I've missed you, and Merlin was delightfully badass. Poor Sophie though.

Hee! Impish Girl always makes me snicker when you quote her. She must be pretty entertaining!

I haven't watched a lot of the show, but shirtless!Arthur lackage is so problematic IMO.

Your father-in-law knows the classic history of King Arthur, right and how he sleept with half sister Morgause and produced Mordred ? Still not liking that this Mordred has no blood relation at all to Arthur. I am still thinking he is a red herring, and wil be killed. Morgause will sleep with Arthur and then we will have a Mordred 2 who will be Arthur's incestuous Nephew/Son. It would be interesting to see if they follow one thread of the Legend of King Arthur in which he did have 3 sons with Gwen. But they died, and somehow his foster brother Sir Kay ended up killing Gwen, in the thought she killed her own sons.
