Stick to the head-canon! It's fab. I love how you can take all the disjointed thoughts in my head ('she's just like CAL!', 'she's just like Jenny!', 'she's just like River!' 'she's a mirror for the Doctor!' etc etc...) and make them make SENSE. And even if this doesn't turn out to be the truth, or the whole of it, it doesn't make the mirror-y, meta-y goodness any less awesome.

So yes - the other thing I really like about this theory is how well it fits with my random ramblings of a few weeks ago, about how the Doctor's next companion should be someone he turns *from* a weapon *into* something better. I mean, he always helps his companions turn into something better, but often 'better' = 'more willing to shoot at the bad guys'. There's more than one 'better way of living your life' - as he showed Jenny, very briefly, in TDD. She and River both began their lives as programmed weapons, and became something better - but River's story is disrupted and timey-wimey, and her actual evolution from weapon to, well, saviour, is rather abript. Likewise Jenny, who only had one episode in which to develop. Wouldn't it be great if Oswin was Jenny's daughter, (and so River's....step-granddaughter?!) and got to live the same character arc as her mother, but in more detail and over more time?
