I just think they missed out on a great sight gag. We could've seen him *pulling* a surfboard out of his pocket.
Their CGI budget probably couldn't stretch that far... (Srsly, if you read The Writers Tale, great chunks are about trying to reduce the number of special effects, because they can't afford more than a certain amount. *g*)
