Darcy and I were engaged within 6 days of meeting and married a year later. Still happy together 14 1/2 years later. My parents were married after two months - it's their 41 years' wedding anniversary on Monday. My uncle (my mother's brother) and his wife were married 3 months after meeting, nearly 40 years ago. Their daughters both met their husbands-to-be and never looked at anyone else since. (Esp. romantic for the elder one... their eyes (literally) met across a crowded room. They were 16. Still very much in love.)

It's just a thing in our family...

ETA: I am not advocating getting married age 20 as a particularly SENSIBLE thing. I just know what was right for me. And I have never - not EVER - felt more right about anything than I did on my wedding day. (There is also the fact that marriage is hard work. It's worthwhile, but not easy. Which I guess is why I like complicated couples.)

rackham and I actually met about a year before we started dating, but didn't really get to know each other well (we were both involved in the SF&F club in college). I finally asked him out the next year and within the first week we were already talking about all the things we wanted to do and see together when we got married and we were officially engaged about two weeks after that (so three weeks after we started dating). We got married five months later (or, as I like to put it, five hellishly long months later) and have been very happily married for nearly 23 years and counting.

So, I don't know that I'd call it love at first sight, but once we really started spending any time with each other, we knew we were meant to be together.

And, like you, I don't particularly advocate getting married at 19... in my case, I'd been living on my own for essentially three years (I'd been at home for the first two of those years, but my parents were never there and got divorced partway through it... I bought and prepared my own food, had a full time job, bought my own clothes and even paid some of the bills). Plus, I'd dated a lot... I had a pretty good idea what I wanted in a spouse.

My mother was 20 when she got married, and I always said that this was too young. Until I met Darcy... Hope my daughters take a little longer. *g* (I remember one friend I had when we lived in York, who met her husband-to-be at university, and was very cross because she'd wanted to have some years of fun first, but he was definitely The One, so that was that. *g*)
