3 good Sherlock-y things. :)

1. Moffat answers his critics, re. 'A Scandal in Belgravia' (*feels nicely vindicated*):

2. In last week's Sunday Times there was a LOVELY article about the show, with interviews with Mark Gattis, as well as Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch. I've scanned it, as well as writing out my favourite bits. Enjoy! :) Only very vague spoilers for 2.01.

Gatiss likes to quote a moment in Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes storyThe Yellow Face: "Nothing's happening in the case, and Holmes is moping. Watson eventually persuades him to come out of the house for a walk. And he writes, 'We rambled about together, in silence for the most part, as benefits two men who know each other intimately.' I've never forgotten that."

And from towards the end of the interview (I love this too much for words. These guys have NO ILLUSIONS!):

Freeman, who hasn't had a laptop for long, and is thus new to the wonders of slash fiction, suggests I look it up myself, but is happy to précis: "There are a lot of people hoping that our characters and ourselves are rampantly at it most of the time."

The fact that the two leads in Sherlock are now to appear in The Hobbit, another cult favourite, has sent the fantasists haywire. "It's already started," Freeman says, unfurling the fatigued world's-gone-mad look that he has practically trademarked. "There are cartoons where Smaug has Sherlock's blue scarf and hair. And Bilbo's got a wooly jumper like John wears, and they're snuggling up on a rug. I think it's tongue in cheek - which saves it from being really scary. It's people doing it knowing they've got too much time on their hands."

Anyway, here you go - click for bigger. Sorry they're either tiny or ENORMOUS. Maybe you should just download them?

3. [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna watched Sherlock! \o/ She's not seen S1 (yet! *g*), but here are her thoughts on 2.01, which are short, perfectly formed, and completely spoiler free!

I started looking for pictures of Smaug with a scarf and ended up finding a rather nice 'Smaug' design for socks, which I have bookmarked and may even knit some day!

Thanks so much for scanning and posting that article! I've been seeing bits and pieces of it here and there on the web, but being in the US, haven't been able to get my hands on the real thing. Their discussion of fanfic makes me grin every time I think about it.

I may be outing myself as a bit of a fangirl here, but search smauglock or cumbersmaug on Tumblr and you'll see lots of variations on the dragon/hobbit/scarf theme! You can even order tee-shirts. :)

Just told Loki above, but try Tumblr tags Cumbersmaug or Smauglock for lots of variations on Bilbo/JW and Smaug/Sherlock. (Some of higher quality than others, all pretty funny. :)

Thanks for posting the article for those of us who have not had a chance to get our hands on it. I am looking forward to seeing all the goodies that people are talking about up on the screen. (I have a weird relationship with spoilers it drives some of my friends crazy.)

I always worry when the actors find the real person fic, but at least these to seem to be taking it in good humor.

I loved Irene, and didn't get all the complaints with how the story was handled.

I don't think there was a treatment of that episode that would have made everyone happy. For my part, I didn't think that Irene or Sherlock were really in love with each other. They had a fascination. And I didn't see what the big deal was with him triumphing in the end. I don't think in a six episode series there's going to be an episode where he doesn't come out on top, because that's just the nature of the game. Has every other episode been such a faithful adaptaion that people were expecting everything to play out exactly as it did? THAT would have gone over well with the other part of fandom, having her get away and him still being fixated on her. As it was, I thought their story came to a conclusion. And she did pull one (or several) over on him over the course of the ep. I suppose the majority of the wank could have been avoided if the lesbian line had been left out, but then, I also didn't think that she was really in love with him. Nor did I think he had to save her because she was suddenly a damsel, I thought he saved her because he knew he took away her only protection (which she was doing a damn fine job of protecting herself with). But the phone was the game, and she presented him the game, so he was going to do everything she could to win it.

Yeah, I loved everything about this episode, lol.
