Somebody did do a rather good fic set right before the opening scenes of A Christmas Carol with Rory complaining that he couldn't think of any scenario in which a centurion and a police woman would have any reason to interact and Amy pretty much telling him "do you want to stand around and debate character motivations, or do you want to have sex?" One guess how that worked out.
