The thing is, I think it's precisely Ten's constant (futile) struggle against the universe that gave the impression of a vastness that wasn't really there any longer in S6.

I think Moffat does both the big and small pretty well? And what you say about the impression of control. Hmmm. I think he's very aware he's not in control, and on a certain level he's ok with that. What he has though, is a little bit more control over himself. Not perfect. Lord no, he has a temper. But he has just a little bit more serenity than Ten, and that's what lets him roll with what the universe throws at him. He's mutable and adaptable, as a good trickster should be.

On big and small. I think what said here, still summarizes succinctly my take on Eleven's perspective.
