Interesting meta! I quite love how evenhanded you were about the two eras and Doctors. I'm also extremely impressed that you managed to find the time and energy (and concentration) to write all this. I have at least a dozen half-written meta essays in my head that I can never seem to focus on long enough to do anything about. *ooooh shiny*

While I could write and essay about your essay, I'll confine myself to two points before I run off.

1. The trickster is the perfect way to view the Doctor. Completely perfect. Tricksters are also my FAVORITE sorts of characters (I had a thing for Loki when I was younger and into Norse myth) so it's not at all surprising that I would love the Doctor as much as I do.

2. The way I see the 'universe is bigger than the Doctor/the Doctor is bigger than the universe' idea is that the universe we see with Eleven is a very small universe. Yes, there is more out there but the focus is VERY tight. Just think about The Big Bang. The universe is the size of Earth for a while! And, even if it weren't, we don't really see the effect of events on a larger scale in Moffat Who. Contrast that to RTD Who where we get scenes of a larger universe (Cybermen all over the planet! Dozens of planets getting moved!) and an impression that the focus is larger.
