The decadence of words

My father in law has HUGE amounts of books. Now and again I go scouring through them, and today came across 'Goodbye to Berlin' by Christopher Isherwood, and picked it up out of curiosity.

And - I think I'm in love.

I'd forgotten what it's like to be seduced by writing, the way reading can feel like drinking a rich wine and you try to take it slow so it'll last, but you keep picking it up for just another taste...

Also - despite having only seen a couple of trailers - Matt Smith seems a wonderful choice, since I keep reading with his voice (and the inflections he uses) in my head.

(Now the question is, will I have to hunt down 'Mr Norris Changes Trains' before Saturday [when Christopher and His Kind is on]? Not to mention 'Christopher and his Kind' itself. Hmmm. *wanders off to amazon*)

Oh, he's just wonderful, isn't he? When I heard one of my favourite actors was going to be portraying one of my favourite writers, I flipped out.
'Goodbye to Berlin' was the inspiration behind Cabaret, my favourite musical/movie. Augh, I just love him.

That is very understandable. I want to devour all his Berlin stuff now, so I can see how well it's done on screen...

Not positive, but isn't Goodbye to Berlin - the basis of the Isherwood play - "I am the Camera", which later became the musical "Caberet" and eventually the movie of the same, with Liza Minelli and Joel Grey?

(I've never seen Cabaret though, something I guess I ought to remedy...)

Ah, Cabaret (not Caberet - thanks, could not remember how to spell that word at lunch for some reason.) Odd considering the words I do spell at work.

The film - Cabaret is amazing. Directed by Bob Fosse, who did the choreography. Michael York plays the Isherwood part. I also saw it on Broadway - but alas not with the late Natasha Richardson or with Alan Cummings.

I can't really complain, considering how rarely I respond to other people's posts. Just no time and nothing to say. Responding to posts is oddly harder than writing them, no idea why. ;-)
