The short version is that I like this very much. It's cold and snowy but I have strong coffee and Alex fic! Yay. I am happy to have contributed to your morning. :)
I love that you took this to such a dark place. I didn't think you'd go there, but it really works for me. Oh good! Like I've said before, it's something I've had in my mind for years and years, and it's influenced all the stories that came after [time wise] - you can see the effects in the Alex/Josh argument in the Allison story, and he has uses his teleport pendant in the Torchwood Christmas story. (Plus, of course, you also now know why he's so angry about being sent to Cambridge...)
Lucy and the Master have such a gorgeous twisted relationhsip, don't they? (You make me want to rewatch season three. And I had scheduled today for reorganizing my bedroom and the guest room) Heh. Maybe the re-watch could be a reward once you're done?
Alex manipulates the Doctor's guilt beautifully, which is what a real kid would probably do. Alex manipulates everyone - it's partly because he wants everyone to get along, but of course he also uses it for his own benefit. He really is terribly spoiled...
And i doubt he sees the parallels between him and the kidnappers; but it was a nice touch. I'm glad you noticed! From the start I wanted the abducters to be creatures that he'd understand (see him chatting away happily to the surgeon) - and there is a certain wistfulness to knowing that they don't have the ethics and morals that he has to follow. (Although I'm guessing you're more thinking of the one-track-minded magpieness? *g*)
Also Jack, The Master, Lucy, The Doctor, and Alex & his buddies sitting down to waffles is just a neat mental picture. The waffles have been an integral part of the story since I first thought it up. And it had to be waffles! Enjoy yours. :)
