A-AU? Gingerbread House? ::frowns:: Are there blimps floating in the air over this London? LOL! :D
The "Cut off Communications" idea is an interesting one too. I rather like the fact that canon doesn't give us an answer. Well, apart from Gwen's 'Oh how ashamed he must be!!!' - but really, the Doctor is well aware of humanity's failures. (Not to mention his own.) You never know, if Jack ever comes on DW again (Pretty please Santa Moff? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease?) we might get an answer of sorts...
And The Doctor could figure it out and swoop in to save the day! Or, you know, not. See, this was part of the reason I wrote it. What would happen if the Doctor had a personal stake in things? What if he came? What if he didn't? Etc etc.
I know it's not a popular reaction in fandom, but I love the darkness of CoE! Oh you and me both. It broke my heart, but it was so well done - without a doubt it's RTD's masterpiece.
