I got the Specials soundtrack for my birthday and am currently listening to 'Vale Decem', one of the single most gorgeous pieces of music, ever.

And it reminded me of this vid which solitary_summer rec'd a couple of weeks ago. It is - unusually - a vid to a German song, from the Austrian/German musical 'Tanz der Vampire'. The song is called 'Ewigkeit' - that is, 'Eternity', and the vid plays absolutely beautifully upon the themes of the 'forever' of the Timelords versus the mortality of humankind. Mmmmm, Rusty themes, I love you still. (Spoilers up to, and including, End of Time.)

There is a version with subtitles here, but solitary_summer was so kind as to do a far more accurate translation which I've put under the cut.

The last line is a bit difficult to translate word for word, it essentially means, 'We'll plunge them into the depth', but there's also the aspect of 'overthrow'. Throwing someone down literally as well as metaphorically, in every sense.

‘Hinab' means 'down, downwards'.

Oh, and BTW, I didn't used to like the "Vale Decem" and now I'm starting to love it. Since I bought the soundtrack CD I've listened to it a bunch of times and every time I listen to it I love it more than the last time. And I can't listen to it without crying.

Thought you might like it. I love how it goes for the very heart of everything, the darkness and terror of eternity, and also how it grasps people and makes them unable to let go. Incredible vid. (Left me pretty speechless too.)

As for Vale Decem, then this post really says a lot, although I don't choke up anymore. But. It is an extraordinarily powerful piece of music, and I love the way it tells a story.

ETA: By the way, did I ever rec di_br's Above and Below? (It's very very different from the 'Eternity' vid - it's all character stuff, about Jack and Ten, but exceptionally well done.)

I've had this sitting open in a tab ever since you posted it and just finally got to it. That is utterly fantastic. And frankly has me foaming at the mouth for the next season already, because I can't wait to get on with the thematic growth!

Why is it only November?

I've had this sitting open in a tab ever since you posted it and just finally got to it. That is utterly fantastic.
\o/ That was my reaction too! It's like someone took all my favourite things and wrapped them up in one vid. (I tend to fall for themes. The point when I fell for DW was the last two eps of S3 with all the Doctor/Master/god complexes all over the place. Never looked back. *g*)

And frankly has me foaming at the mouth for the next season already, because I can't wait to get on with the thematic growth!
