elisi: Playing poker (Girl Doctor)

And now for something completely different.

I've realised something. Namely: The Curse of Fatal Death is the key to the New Who Doctors! Very minor spoilers under the cut. (Well minor for the show itself. Major spoilers for 'The Curse of Fatal Death', which you should all watch because it's AWESOME! Doesn't matter if you don't know anything about Doctor Who, it's basically just a long comedy sketch.)

First, we meet the Ninth Doctor.

He describes himself with these words:

Ninth Doctor: Very well. I have recently calculated that I have saved every planet in the known universe a minimum number of 27 times. Well you know, I have grown weary of all the evil in the cosmos. All the cruelty, all the suffering, all those endless gravel quarries. And so I have decided to retire, settle down and get married.
The Master: What?!
The Doctor: Yes. Without even knowing I was looking, I have found a woman I love. A woman more fascinating than all my travels through time and space. A girl more exciting than an escape up a vetilation shaft.

Remind you of anyone?

OK, so Nine and Rose don't get engaged, but let's just have a look at these quotes:

Christopher Eccleston: It's a love story.

Russell T Davies: From the moment they meet, the Doctor and Rose are soul mates. They understand and complement each other.

Billie Piper: She's quite in love with him.

Steven Moffat: Obviously and quite overtly, really, the subtext of this show is that the Doctor is hopelessly in love with Rose.

All clear? Very well, let's move on to the Tenth Doctor:

He greets the world with these words:

Tenth Doctor: Oh, sorry about that. I just though I'd slip into something more comfortable. Result? Cute, sexy and lick-the-mirror handsome.

*coughs*

Need I say more?

Which brings us to the Eleventh Doctor, and things begin to get fun in earnest:

Eleventh Doctor: Oh dear. Seem to be a bit shy of girls now. All the problems of changing personas. So unpredictable.

And again, I think this image proves my point... [ETA: I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IMAGE WAS. But we all know Eleven]

So, finally, we get to Twelve (shall we call him River's Doctor?), and I'm sure you've all worked out where I'm going with all this:

Twelfth Doctor: Oh dear, look at that. I've gone and used up three bodies in just under a minute, and all because I forgot to unplug first. That really was terribly silly of me. Sorry about that my dear, bit unfortunate.
Emma: Doctor!
Twelfth Doctor: Oh assistant!

Mmmmm, Hugh Grant Doctor - charming, self-deprecating, laid-back... Yeah, I think I could cope with that! *g*

(Plus, does this mean we'd get Joanna Lumley for Thirteen? 'Cause that'd be awesome!)

ETA: This is very funny reading back 15 years later...

bwahahahahahaha!! I love how your mind works!

Fun vid btw. :-)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yes, I have seen Curse of Fatal Death a few times before, and this is perfect! And I wouldn't mind Joanna for 13 either, or any woman Doctor for that matter :)

I find your analysis compelling and irrefutable.

Does this mean the Doctor will, finally, end up with the Master when all is said and done?

Gotta draw these kinds of comparisons out to their logical conclusions.

Oh my gosh! You are *so* right!

Plus, the Daleks will forsake their evil ways. *g*
It's amazing, really, what a little makeover can do for one's mood.

[identity profile] alt_universe_me.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. ROMANA. I NEED HER BACK BADLY.

[identity profile] alt_universe_me.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what else I just realized? The Tenth Doctor in CoFD actually DOES lick the mirror. He licks things. Just like Ten. JUST LIKE TEN.

Aughh now you have made me think about this too much :)

Also, was I the only one who saw a connection between the mentions of architects in this and the mention in Time of the Angels? Seems very similar, Moffat...

[identity profile] alt_universe_me.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! I'm not the only one who noticed that similarity :) Yes, Moffat can recycle as much as he wants as long as he doesn't break my heart. I'm worried for next season, this last season feels like the calm before the storm :O

[identity profile] alt_universe_me.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
River AND Romana? Yes, please :)

Hee! Awesome.

::giggles::

Brilliant analysis and I find myself agreeing with you on many points. And you're right that you don't have to be a Who fan to love this; I first encountered it when I was on the fringes of the fandom and fell in love with it immediately. It was, for a long time, the only Who-related video I owned.

I would welcome Joanna Lumley for Thirteen! I love The Curse of Fatal Death...

Oh, win. Utter utter win.

[identity profile] jrsz.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha well spotted! Moff's insight (or foresight...) astounds me endlessly :DD

[identity profile] saiyako.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Here from who_daily, and this is brilliant! I'd already matched up the Tens - entirely based on the mirror-licking - but the Nines and Elevens I hadn't even thought about, and it works so well!

And I've been wanting Lumley to come back as Thirteen for a very long time now.

You are a genius.

[Also, you have brilliant timing. I watched Curse of the Fatal Death yesterday. I hadn't seen it in years and you are right, it is awesome!]

[identity profile] saiyako.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, now I'm torn... cos Moran would be amazing, and now I want him and Lumley, but that means he can't be ginger!

[identity profile] saiyako.livejournal.com 2010-10-08 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure they will! But will they find one that's not so embarrassingly bad we'll all want to pretend it never happened?

[identity profile] honeynoir.livejournal.com 2012-11-25 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So much ♥ for this post!

Hee! Perfection.
