Once more Josh contemplated the horrible mistake that had been Cheating Bastard (as he had named the guy in his mind). Not that the night hadn’t been well spent (damn he’d been fit), but being woken by an outraged girlfriend screaming ‘Who the hell is that?’ was so far one of the worst moments of his life.
The fact that Cheating Bastard’s first words had been ‘I thought you weren’t coming back until tomorrow!’ hadn’t done anything to improve the mood...
(Although when Outraged Girlfriend had frostily asked ‘So what’s he got that I haven’t?’ Josh had been forced to bite his cheek so hard he drew blood, so as not to lose it.)
Once he’d been able to get a word in edgeways he’d tried his best to exonerate himself - explaining that if he’d known Cheating Bastard was seeing someone he’d not have touched him with a barge pole, and that he was happy to do whatever Outraged Girlfriend wanted, whether keep completely shtum, or tell the world that Cheating Bastard was a crap shag.
At which point Cheating Bastard had begun to look even more worried, and Josh had snarked that maybe this would cure him of any future ‘curiosity’, before walking out, trying to cling to whatever scraps of dignity he still had.

Although it's a very interesting meme - I've discovered that what I need to do is to discover the character's motivation, and then I can place it. (Yours was rather tricky, actually, because the Doctor could smile for a hundred different reasons, and when did I make him smile? In the end it was the briefness of the sentence that made me figure out that it was probably from that fic, since I remember cutting everything down to the minimum.)
And did I ever mention that I'm REALLY good at rambling?
