Shipping: okay, that makes a lot of sense, and I see where we were having two different conversations. Yes, there's a huge power imbalance that River's circumventing.

I meant from a storytelling point of view. The writers can't suddenly kill her off in order to break our the Doctor's hearts.
Ah! Oh, definitely! That's the one thing that makes me glad River's there, no matter what will happen this season. She's safe.

The thing is, though, that they're like a piece of S5 - like River said, she arrived too early. It's absolutely fascinating to watch.
