I adore it. It's them-- I can't see them being "normal". Indeed. And why would they want to?
That is a wonderful quote. And I'm giving CoE a chance-- I've seen Day 1, and it's wonderful so far. If it gets too grim, I can always turn it off. (Strangely, it's one of those things I think I'd be more comfortable reading than watching.) Oh it's absolutely wonderful and just so good. I can see what you say about reading rather than watching, but it wouldn't have anywhere near the same impact.
Yes, they do. RTD did basically every variation of the ending possible for a Doctor/someone relationship. He did rather. Oh, and before they got Catherine Tate for S4, he was planning a new companion - Penny - who'd be another love interest... (I'm glad it didn't happen, 'cause Donna was AWESOME and he really didn't need another girl making puppy dog eyes at him, but the snarky part of me thinks it'd have made all the Doctor/Rose 'shippers furious, and that would have been fun. *g*)
And, thing is, I like that he *had* Doctor romance, and my only complaint about the Doctor/Rose ending is that she never got to say goodbye to the original Doctor. Yeah, good point. See, this is why I write fic... ;)
I still see the "will they/won't they" but that's because I'm not yet a Doctor/River shipper. The sole reason: I don't know enough about River. Hmm. Well the thing is, the relationship clearly does happen, we know that. We don't know what exactly it'll be, but it exists, and can - in future - be moved to the background and the Doctor will, for all intents and purposes, be 'spoken for' and they can avoid future awkwardness with young smitten Companions. (That was a tangent sorry.) Anyway, must run! ETA: I think what I wanted to say that with Rose there was always this 'How far will they go?' and 'Will the Doctor declare how he feels?' and 'What does the future hold for them?' etc. With River we already know the ending, and also there's the fact that what will happen has already happened, and it obviously works well for both of them - there's none of the awkwardness that Ten and Rose sometimes exhibited. (OK, there's awkwardness, but it's of a different kind, and the Doctor has pretty much got over it by now, having got the hang of their dynamic.)

By the way, did I mention that I ramble?
