Is it wrong that I like watching him die because it just leads to such good acting from Matt and Karen? I would kill him off a thousand times if I knew I would get a different and equally good reaction each time. Yeah, I'm a bad person.
Yes. Yes you are. (But that's not necessarily a bad thing...)

I love that Moffat does this constantly and unapologetically--jumps from one mood/genre to another. When I watch his episodes, I'm always taking mental notes about how he does it, and this is one of my favorite things he does with Who.
*nods a lot* He likes to say that Doctor Who can be any genre, and indeed the different episodes have different flavours, but it's when he mixes everything up in *one* story that I just sort of sit back and enjoy the ride.

Because the point isn't that tragic things happen--they do--but about what comes out of them. Does the entire world collapse in their wake? Or does someone, somewhere grow or learn or endure or find a way to cope or move on or strive harder or celebrate the good or make the next generation the best of humanity or anything else, really?
You know, if you ever get the opportunity to watch it, I think you'd love Buffy. Because so much of that show is about dealing with the consequences of the characters' actions. Same goes for Angel.

Rory's show of love is all about devotion and patience, because that's what he has to give; River's is about intimate personal knowledge and trust, because that's her. Amy's is, I suppose, about dramatic leaps of insight and risk (and faith). All are worthy.
I hadn't thought about River's, but yes, exactly. And I love that none of them is held up as 'better' than the others. People are different, and that's good.

Also, look what I got [livejournal.com profile] kathyh to make for me!!! (LJ is gonna take ALL my money, thanks to their pretty squares...)
