Writing about Capt. John yesterday, I was reminded of this fic, which is - hands down - the best Capt John fic I've ever read. Set prior to 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' it's both a character-study and set-up. Seriously excellent.

He doesn’t mean to watch them, but then, he’s never been one to resist temptation. It’s a little like having pets.

He even gives them names.
