Scene: A Gather, Spike & N'gel walking through the stalls, meet Spike's parents.

Spike: 'Oh hi. Father. Mother. This is N'gel, my... partner.'

Spike's father (rather coldly): 'You mean the rumours are true?'

Mother: 'I warned you about this. Dragon riders are all deviants. You should not have let him go...'

Spike (trying not to blush): 'We'll be Weyr leaders! Trust me. The youngest in the land!'

Father: 'My son. A Weyr woman.' (looks N'gel over with ill-concealed disgust) 'Come, dear wife, let's go...'

N'gel (looking after them): 'Well that's-'

Spike (raises eyebrow): 'N'gel. We live together, sleep together, and have sex so... loud it's twice set off the greens. News travels. And Holds are a lot more backwards than Weyrs. However...' (eyes narrow) 'Think I might try to have a word with Lessa today. Woman to woman. See what she thinks to my father's thoughts on the subject.'

N'gel: ...

Spike: (pats him on the shoulder): 'Did you miss the part where I'm good with women? Oh daddy dearest, I think you just helped us one step closer.'
