That's excellent! While the neo-nazi thing may be the most important cause, I wonder if the Pepsico executives came across this on the page you linked to:
I'm not sorry to hear Pepsi has pulled out of the deal, though I'm a bit worried at the speculation that it may have been because of fears that neo-Nazi content put up on a Russian user's LJ, and LJ failing to respond in a timely manner (and I don't for a minute believe that that failing was intentional), has now tarred the whole of LJ with the same brush. If LJ should now be perceived as being a platform for neo-Nazis and other undesirables, what are any of us still doing here?
I wonder if the Pepsico executives came across this on the page you linked to Ooooh thank you for pointing that out! Very funny indeed. LJ users win the internets! :)
I'm not sorry to hear Pepsi has pulled out of the deal Have they actually pulled out? I've not seen anything confirming that, but - to quote Xander - it's funnier if it's true! :)
it may have been because of fears that neo-Nazi content put up on a Russian user's LJ, and LJ failing to respond in a timely manner You know I doubt that very much. There are after all 13 million of us, and LJ only has 115 employees worldwide... some things are bound to fall between the cracks, and I can't see how it can refelct badly on the rest of us. Ah well.
As to virtual gifts - why would I want to refuse to receive them ... I had a couple of boxes of chocs for my birthday - and they were much better on the waste line anyway!
I always prefered Coke to Pepsi anyway Same here. ;)
why would I want to refuse to receive them You can opt out of sponsored ones specifically I think. I don't really have a problem with the regular kind either.
I would love to think that the disappearance of the Pepsi ads was due to the users' protests. We'll just have to wait and see what lame-brained idea 6A comes up with next.
I saw an article on Yahoo!News this morning claiming that Feline Memories Found to be Fleeting . I think that the next cat I get I'm going to name Six Apart because that seems to be the memory span of our corporate overlords, too.
I would love to think that the disappearance of the Pepsi ads was due to the users' protests. Well maybe they realised that pissing off their customers wasn't really the best idea ever...
We'll just have to wait and see what lame-brained idea 6A comes up with next. It could be a competition - with a prize for whoever comes closest. ;)

No - hadn't yet worked that far back in my f-list from my 10 days away ... so thanks for that link. I shall have extra time this eve as no Dr Who ... Neighbours instaed ... How can the BBC do that to me?
Hm, interesting. I wonder if there'll ever be official word on what's up with that?
Also, damn, I wish I'd known about that giving-Pepsi-to-LJ-biz protest while it was still possible! I saw the announcement about the free v-gifts, and was all like, "damn, free v-stuff, and I can't do anything with it because who would want a v-gift with all of this crap going on?" (Passing up free stuff is hard. Even if it's pretend free stuff.)
I remember a few people complaining about not being able to refuse v-gifts before, because LJ had a few, I think around Halloween, that were "pranky" ... one I remember was a flaming bag of poo. It was the kind of "gift" some people might send as a way of flipping the recipient off.
Come to think of it, I wish LJ had still had those because it would have been funny to see it spamming the official comms along with the Bad Report Cards and the Pepsi Max adverts.
Hm, interesting. I wonder if there'll ever be official word on what's up with that? My thoughts exactly...
"damn, free v-stuff, and I can't do anything with it because who would want a v-gift with all of this crap going on?" I *know*! Stupid timing. Now they've sorted it out (ish...) I *am* beginning to wonder. *sigh*
