Do you know if there are ways to save stuff from an "X, formerly Twitter," account before deleting one? I have a Mastodon account set up, but have been reluctant to completely delete my account at the Nazi bar.

Yes! I downloaded mine back in November, however I had no memory of how I did it, so I had to look it up:

If you are logged into Twitter on the web:

Click or tap More in the main navigation menu to the left of your timeline.
Select Settings and privacy.
Choose Your account.
Select Download an archive of your data.
Confirm your password, then select Request archive.

ETA: It might take a few days for it to arrive if they have many requests.

I know how you feel, I downloaded mine and then just left it dormant (opinion was divided which was best - to delete or to leave dormant), but I think I'll go delete it properly now. It's not like I've used it in the past... however many months.

Apparently so? It's funny the lines we draw in the sand, but Elon Musk made me up and leave last November and I've never looked back.

Yeah, I've not frequented the place since November 2022. Why anyone stays in that pit of vipers (beyond those who need it for work reasons etc) is beyond me.

Funnily enough I have just gone in and finally deleted my account a moment ago. I haven't done so to this point because I got a new phone earlier this year and never installed the app - I didn't want that filth on my new phone.

Had to go through a palava to do it though, tried on my laptop, but I hadn't set up 2 factor authentication on the new phone of course, but luckily still had the old phone lying around and it was still on there...

It's done. Phew. That Monkey murdering, social media platform killing, Nazi harbouring arsehole can now be gone from my life! Ugh!

Hear hear! I downloaded my archive, deleted the app & abandoned my account back in November, but never got round to deleting it until now. (Partly because people kept arguing over whether being active was more detrimental for the platform than deletion, but fuck it, I just don't want to have any part of me there.)

Thank you for the offer, but I am on way too many platforms already! ^_^ Also I don't trust Jack Dorsey, although he is clearly better at running things than Musk.
