I feel like every complaint I read about the Chibnall era starts with 'no shade on Jodie, she's great, but . . .' And people seemed to realize pretty instantaneously that a female Doctor just works. Maybe if she'd needed more defending, you'd have been compelled to dig in a bit more?
Oh I agree with the sentiment (I see it too), but I'm not sure that's it. I think the issue is the lack of substance? People like Thirteen because Jodie puts in a very likeable performance and is very Doctor-y. Or: Nice Doctor, Bad Scripts. Whereas for Six it's more like: Unlikeable Doctor, Bad Scripts. But with the unlikeability comes something to dig into, whereas Thirteen is just layers of niceness with opaqueness below. There is nothing TO defend, I don't know what makes her tick. (That said, she was interesting to write, because I could project things onto her.)

Maybe in true Classic Who style, Chibbs is saving all the emotional substance for the last episode. (I'm a little amazed that my 'maybe this season/episode/whatever will be the one to crack it all open for me' has survived this long. Thank goodness this really is the last time I can extend that hope, I'm quite tired.)
You get gold stars for optimism!

Oh, for sure. *pets all the bunnies*
It's only been... 2 years? *cries*

Yeah, that sounds advisable. Not like you have to relive everything to make the point.
I'm pondering. Let's see how we go.
