Well, my other half is feeling rubbish (tiredness, headache), so we are currently waiting for the result of a lateral flow test... :( He is due to have his booster on Saturday! ETA: Hurrah, it's negative (for now at least). Blessed be the lateral flow tests for giving peace of mind.

Which was not at all what I meant to post.

There is so much covid stuff and politics and... *waves hands* And I am too tired to write about it, but on the plus side tomorrow is my last day at work! (Presuming Darcy's not plagued, in which case I will be working from home, yay. /sarcasm) Generally I like working from home, but it'd be nice to be in tomorrow to tie everything up properly.)

Anyway, thanks to following Dimash I know that today is the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence day! 🇰🇿 Here is a photo of Dimash's parents from earlier today, clearly part taking in some kind of celebration - they look like a painting, it's amazing. Kazakh culture & history is fascinating, it's one the real joys of this whole rabbit hole I have fallen into.

Good work being not plagued. I was running tired yesterday and today and came into work to news of a major student outbreak and everybody being sent home for winter break early. Promptly booked a test.

Fortunately I am also not plagued.

I'm currently teaching English to a class of Kazakhs and they all went and celebrated 30 years of independence at their embassy for independence day, and they gave me a Kazakh flag t-shirt :D

Anecdotal evidence is starting to suggest it's a day or two after symptoms start before you start testing positive. My R has it - feeling very crap. She had SIX negative lateral flows and one negative PCR test before one that read positive.

Not wanting to frighten you or anything, but...

(And I am beside myself with worry about R. She may be 30, but she's my little girl.)

It's so hard when there are colds and 'flu around — every sneeze and sniffle is a real concern isn't it! I'm glad the LF test is negative at least. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Booster shots are great! They am to get the whole country booster'd before 2022, so we'll see how that goes... *crosses fingers*

And Dimash's parents are just gorgeous (in basically every way), but the traditional Kazakh outfits are just the icing on the cake. :D

So are we!! That would really have put a spanner in the works for Christmas... (Let it be noted that although the government has gotten almost everything wrong, at least lateral flow tests are plentiful and free.)

Oh joy. Well I worked from home, just to be on the safe side, and we'll do another test in a few days. But he's up and about - not better as such, but not worse either.

Damn, that's a lot of negatives. And my sympathies - it's a nasty illness, even if it never gets serious. I think the fatigue was probably the worst part, mostly because that's what lasted the longest. Tell her to rest a lot - more than she thinks she needs, even when she is feeling better again.

Well I had two poorly at the same time (or rather, we were all ill at the same time), one in South End and one in Newcastle. They had friends who looked after them well, so I am sure R will be fine. Especially if she's had her jabs. ♥ ♥ ♥ (Also since I was poorly at the same time I didn't really have the energy to be worried...)

It really makes one paranoid. I had the tiniest twinge in my throat the other day, and immediately my brain went: 'One of the omicron symptoms is a scratchy throat, what if...???'

Mind you, I do a lateral flow twice a week because of work, so I can easily put my mind at rest. *g*
