*ducks for unpopular opinion*
Don't duck! Come in, have a cuppa and a biscuit! I am pretty much fandom's Pollyanna, disliking stuff is very rare for me, and I don't like it. So thank you for taking the time to write such a long reply. ♥
Many of the reasons have already been listed above, but the biggest for me is just that it felt *fun* again, in a way that it really hadn’t been for me since about the middle of Moffet’s run.
Absolutely fair enough. S8 & 9 are very rough - I love what they do, the hard work they do with the Doctor, but it's not fun. (S10 is pure wonder and poetry though. <3)
except the one with where the villain was the sleep in your eye - that one was crap
Ugh yes. It was my personal Worst Ever until Kerblam! came along. (Kerblam! is worst ever for entirely different reasons.)
but I didn’t like any of it well enough to binge over and over the way I did with say, season 4.
I hear ya. And that's basically what's missing for me this time round (the lack of squee), hence asking for people to tell me Happy Things. Because I know they're there.
Jodie’s Doctor. She’s brilliant in that she can be the smartest person in the room while realizing that she’s maybe not the cleverest person in the room. I love that she’s a maker, welding her screwdriver and fiddling with stuff until it does what she wants. I love that she’s not cynical AT ALL, after so many years of that being a fairly large part of the Doctor’s armor. I love her for reasons that I can’t think of right now.
Jodie's Doctor is adorable and fun and bouncy and like a non-angsty Ten and I love her to pieces. I love that we have a female Doctor and I just want them to do MORE with her.
I love the companions. All of them, even though we don’t have enough time with any of them.
I love them too, but the latter part is what sticks. Partly probably because I wasn't expecting much from Chibnall in terms of stories/sci-fi, but I *was* expecting good character dynamics and arcs. And they are such lovely companions, they deserve so much more than they're getting!
And would you mind me quoting what you wrote about the different characters? You just sum them up wonderfully, and I couldn't agree more.
I love the historical stories. I’m an American, so I of course learned about Rosa Parks and the civil rights movement in school, but if the partition of India was ever mentioned it’s been lost in the almost 30 years since my last history class in my first year of college.
Sadly I think few people in Britain would have known much either... So yes, A+ (his)tory.
I love Sheffield. I’m not sure if the episodes set there are meant to be love letters to it, but they make it look so beautiful. Also, I love the characters accents. I’ve seen a ton a criticism about them and I just don’t get it.
Yay go Sheffield! Sheffield is not far from where I live - Huddersfield, where Jodie is from is basically down the road - so I can vouch for the place being represented very accurately, and the accents are what I am surrounded by every day. Love it too. :)
I know all of this. But I still love this season. A lot.
This makes me so happy. I wish I loved it. Maybe I will in the future, who knows. (I am really good at liking things, it bothers me that I don't like this.)
(Sorry for all the run-on sentences and general incoherence. But apparently I have Opinions.)
I have an icon for that! Rambling is always encouraged here, and thank you again. ♥
