'Watch enough Who and inevitably your favorite character becomes the Doctor and your favorite Doctor becomes the Doctor.'

Do you think if we shake S11 really hard we'll get more of the Doctor? Like, we're in the middle of a 55-year old character arc here. Bit keen to get back.

Although yes, the Doctor is obviously the one I follow, the one I care about, the one I want to see more of.
Incidentally, have you read The Day of the Doctor? I keep meaning to pimp it and then faltering because it's impossible to describe. But one thing it does is it always calls the Doctor 'the Doctor' - half the time you have to try to work out which one you are following, as the book jumps between times and events with abandon, and the Doctor is just the Doctor. Best book ever.

<3 I'm glad! I mean, I hope you manage to function, but this is only right and proper...

Well, my head is up in the clouds, but I'm used to that... ;)

And I know that most people do have 'their' Doctor, but I just...don't. Nine was my first Doctor, and I LOVED him and was OUTRAGED and distraught when I learned he was only doing one season. He kind of set the tone of The Doctor for me. But then there was Ten, who was beautiful and passionate and who I fell for within about three minutes, and was hopelessly, completely in love with (and sliiiiightly still am, oh god why) and was the perfect Doctor for 16-19 year-old me. Then there was Eleventy! Wonderful, kind, lovely, flaily Eleventy, who taught me to read the show in a whole new way, and whose era got me into the whole meta thing, and who completely reset the tone of the Doctor for me. And then there was Twelve, who I loved hopelessly, in spite of (or sometimes because of) all his anger, and how hard he had to work for the things that came so effortlessly to his predecessors, and I mean he was Peter Capaldi so I was always going to love him. And now there is Thirteen. And for all this season's issues, I love her. And there is just no way I can ever choose between them, which is why I always say my Doctor is The Doctor. I guess to be more accurate my Doctor is the New Who Doctor, but that's only because I haven't seen enough of all of the others to claim them as mine.

Eeeep! Lucky you! You could have asked how much he considered his era of Doctor Who to relate to The Waste Land, but I figure that would have been a little much when just getting a book signed. ;)
And I'm really looking forward to reading it - I'm so glad you like it, that gives me a lot of hope! Will push it up the endless To Read list.
I have read it four times (so far). It is genuinely one of the best books of *anything* I have ever read. It's like... seeing it all in 3D or something? I can't explain it. You'll see. *hands* I have never read anything remotely like it.
And there is just no way I can ever choose between them, which is why I always say my Doctor is The Doctor. I guess to be more accurate my Doctor is the New Who Doctor, but that's only because I haven't seen enough of all of the others to claim them as mine.
No, that makes perfect sense. I just have a special place for Eleven in my heart. And his Ponds. I guess they just made me happier than all the rest.
But yay for Thirteen and more in SEVEN MINUTES MUST GO!
(Also if you miss Moffat, watch Seven.)
