Like I said elsewhere, am not bothered about the commenter, just sad that it was not a happy surprise for you.
I will probably give in eventually and go with AO3; though I do not really want to. Hopefully I will set up something via WordPress or somesuch so that I can at least feel like I have more control over how they look. As others have said, the thing about AO3 is that's where people go to read. So once you bite the bullet, you should be getting some readers. (Tags are important, but I am sure you will rock it.) And good luck with the Wordpress also - it looks nice, but I have never had much to do with it, so can't offer any advice I'm afraid.
I may end up making more political posts etc with my new dreamwidth; at least then I can provide links. That is not a bad idea.
And hope that in future, birthdays will be happier occasions. <3
