The Return of Doctor Mysterio
This episode did exactly what it said on the tin.
I didn't expect much, as I am not particularly invested in superhero tropes. And this was superhero tropes from beginning to end, including all the problematic issues. By which I mean: This episode would not qualify for a BAFTA. (This is incidentally going to be my measuring scale from now on - go BAFTA!) One black guy (killed of course, and the Doctor didn't try to save him?), one woman (the love interest), no LGBT+ or disabled ppl. Meh. Competent story, looked like every superhero movie ever re the aesthetic, basic 'blockbuster'. Very RTD, actually, in style & content.
I didn't mind Nardole. And it's good that the Doctor has FINALLY learned not to mope alone, but to get some company.
ETA: Just twigged what's been bugging me - it wasn't Christmassy. Like, at all. Except for the Doctor being mistaken for Santa at the very beginning (and props to DW creating a credible in-'verse superhero btw), but otherwise - nothing. That was rather an oversight...
ETA2: Right, so Proton has pointed out positives. The love interest is also a single mother, and great at interrogating. And the superhero did not have a tragic past and zero angst and was a nanny.
Guess I'm just greedy.

sea_thoughts made this point:
This is a very good point. Plz love it, I hope I'll grow to like it more, I don't like being Scrooge.
Mostly though, then S10 better be wall-to-wall Happiness Patrols. (Seriously. I want some biting political commentary.) Thankfully the trailer looks great, with or without politics:
ANYWAY. It was a thing. Back to Class. <33333

I thought the whole plot about a man willingly taking on the care and upbringing of a baby not biologically his because he was a decent guy and because he cared for the baby's mother was Christmassy since that's the actual Christmas story. ;)
