I did read some spec that Theresa May and Boris Johnson came to a private arrangement that he would step aside and support her bid to be Prime Minister, so long as she in return gave him a high-ranking position in her cabinet

I think that's precisely what she's done. She's actually given him a job that looks shiny, but is nowhere near as powerful as it once was.

All the jobs that will have to sort out Brexit (even Loathsome Leadsome's) have gone to Leave politicians so if they mess it up they can blame no-one but themselves.

She made him Foreign Secretary so he would have to suffer all the awkward press conferences and official diplomatic meetings that the Foreign Secretary has to attend. I am enjoying watching him suffer very much.
