I think the strength of series 8 is that even when the episode itself is bad, there is lovely consistent character work happening. It still can't beat s5 though (nothing beats s5) best series ever. Aside: I tried to get my cousin to watch doctor who. I started with blink as it is so clever and he was completely uninterested. We moved on to the eleventh hour and he was hooked! I always forget what a great debut that one is till I re-watch. ..
