(It was HILARIOUS being in fandom the week it aired. Half my flist was outraged because Ten had ~upset Rose running off with that French so-and-so, whereas my reaction was to be thrilled because he got laid. (A sure indicator I was not cut out to be a Ten/Rose shipper... *g*).) Seriously though, a gorgeous episode through and through.
Oh, I was a Ten-Rose 'shipper AND a Ten-Reinette 'shipper AND a Ten-Master 'shipper AND a Ten-River 'shipper. I think I did at least one fanfic story for each of those pairings. I loved Ten with Rose, but I had no problems whatsoever with him running off with Reinette for a few hours, especially since she was so awesome. I loved how she stood down the robots and said "WE are FRENCH" to rally the courage of her subjects. Her death at the end (and the Doctor's reaction to it) was just heartbreaking.
I really didn't get the dislike of the character--maybe it's just the whole "normal girl" viewers identifying with the "normal girl" character, and feeling threatened when a "pretty girl" character comes along and steals the guy away from the "normal girl" character? (If that's the case, maybe the viewers need more help than a TV show should be obliged to give them). ; )
Incredible episode. This one and "Empty Child/ Doctor Dances" are what convinced me that Moff has some exceptional storytelling abilities. (How the hell he ever keeps everything straight in his head is beyond me).
Oddly, the only character I've shipped Eleven with is River. Whereas I could see Ten with any number of other characters, Eleven struck me as much more of a one-woman man, even if he did flirt sometimes. (I don't think the Doctor can ever NOT flirt).
I wonder if the sponge lady does curtains, too? If so, she's welcome to help me decide what to put on my windows. : )
