Oh, I don't particularly enjoy his interpretation as a fic-writer. To me, the echoes, work exactly as photocopies i.e. they are photographs of Clara at a moment. I absolutely love how you see this, it makes so much sense! And there is nothing to stop that being the 'official' interpretation - there is next to no discussion about what she remembers, which is v. useful.

I've called Clara River's apprentice or protege before, and I think that fits. River guides her in Name of the Doctor, and uses Clara as her mouthpiece. (Clara's knowledge - if we count all the copies - is wide. River's is deep, the Doctor wired into her very DNA.)
