Very late to the party but since I am trying to write about the Doctor's saviour complex and ethic and wars, I figured I needed to read this to put everything in place. And it was efficient. What a beauty. Thank you! And I'm honoured that you thought of me. :)
I was mostly taken aback by the last part, coming back to the Library and the Wedding of River Song. Of course, weapons, marriages of opposites, everybody lives. Moffat is deliciously consistent when it comes to topoi. And you underline it beautifully. It's such a gift of a show! And I almost felt superfluous writing it, if that makes sense? Like everything is there, being drawn together in big beautiful circles (with a bow on top!). I sort of want to go back & edit it to add bits & pieces from Time of the Doctor. Loose ends that can now be tied up.
About Clara's lines resembling River's: it may be that Clara simply became a teacher, when River had been the Doctor's Professor. She was upgraded in a way. Oh, and the reflection on Clara's point of view! Though I doubt she remembers her lives. I think Moffat said that she remembers them sort of dream-like. And re. Clara being a teacher, then this minisode illustrates her role very well, I think. River was... Well, River was his re-boot in a person, whereas Clara is the person who holds him by the hand and guides him across the threshold. (Oooh, I like that.)
I had forgotten how your metas make EVERYTHING work within an episode. Thank you for sharing! Thank YOU for reading! (Btw is the anonymous comment above yours? And do you want me to reply to it, or delete it?)
