I adored this. My friend went to the BFI screening a few days ago and it received a standing ovation from the assembled audience at the end, and now I can see why.
Yeah, really. I wasn't that bothered, thinking I'd go and do something else if I got fed up of it, but I got completely drawn in. I think it could be described as the story of how the characters of the people involved in its origins, particularly Hartnell, made the program what it was, which is a fine ambitious thing for a program like this to attempt. It was just a little bit mythologised fan-service in places, perhaps, but really that reflects the show itself; that sense that anything with the Doctor in could be a fairy-tale. But also that fairies aren't always nice.
I think it's on BBC America tonight. I'll be out, but it should be available after that. Then tomorrow is reserved entirely for rocking and squeeing, obviously.

The things I do for you . . . *splutters* Would you consider me watching Jekyll as something I did for you or me?
I can't even begin to explain how perfect it was, except that I want to rewatch it. A lot. Even though I have NO time. I just want to see it again. And it... it just captures the magic of the show, and how that was there right from the start, and HOW and... *waves hands*
ETA: You know how Gatiss called it a love letter to the show? That's what it is.

It was also a wonderful love letter to Television Centre - what an iconic building, so much part of my childhood because it was where you wrote to when you wrote to Blue Peter!
It was so lovely that I don't feel ready for tomorrow's new episode - I'd like a little bit longer just to sit and be quiet and thankful. Such beautiful performances, and a story that was worth telling for so many reasons.
It was also a wonderful love letter to Television Centre - what an iconic building, so much part of my childhood because it was where you wrote to when you wrote to Blue Peter! *nods* And they filmed just as the BBC were packing up and leaving... I've tried googling to see what the future holds, but I'm not sure.
It was *perfect*. I was so excited for this, that when I realised I could watch it live, I did. First time in at least a decade that I was excited for something on TV and actually watched it as it was broadcast… (on my computer, because we don't actually have a tv, but still.) The first of the two Moments had me a bit confused at first, then it was just emotion, because… And the second just… Aaagh. <3 Also… no, everything.
It was so perfect I wanted to know more, more precisely (without the dramatisation) – and that's also the essence of the show for me. Perfect :)
It just aired over here in America. What an adventure! I nearly cried at the end. Shame the cameo from Mark Gatiss as Pertwee got cut. Hope it's on the DVD.
Of course, now I'm going to have to write a fanfiction about how Matt Smith wound up in the '60s.
They filmed and inserted Matt with greenscreen so that for subsequent airings, they could add any Doctor they liked, but I like the idea of the two outgoing actors giving each other reassurance like that.

I saw it much more as the 'future' reassuring the 'past' (much like the Ninth Doctor telling Dickens that his stories would live forever), but your interpretation is lovely too. <3

Cause I can't say the description does a thing to make me interested, but I can probably be persuaded.

OK, it's like the Confidentials. But 50 years ago. And edited together to be a drama and with more stuff - like, meetings with producers etc.

And oh, the ending. By all right it should have been cheesy as hell, but instead it just worked.

Yes.
Lucky us, I got home, and BBC America is just repeating it.
