Because there are people who are not familiar with Twelve's previous work...

This is something that never fails to crack me up. (The Thick of It fans will probably know it already):

Imagine the Doctor motivating a young companion...

And for something completely different, a snippet from Local Hero, a film EVERYONE should watch because it is one of the most delightfully charming and funny movies ever made. Also Capaldi looks about 12...

Of course he was also Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth, where he stole the show every time he came on screen, and basically acted his socks off. Damn, he's a fine actor. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he does with his new role. :)

Oh, he looks *soooo* young. I adore "Local Hero".

If you haven't seen "The Crow Road" he was excellent in that too. He's such a versatile actor that he should be terrific as the Doctor.

That's one of my favourite scenes from The Thick Of It. I love that that's really as friendly as Malcolm gets; he's honestly trying to connect with Ollie here...

It wouldn't be the Lake District if you didn't get rained on :)
Mostly sunny counts as a definite win. Glad you had a good time and, once again, thanks for the card. Now I want to go there!

That may be the best description of Star Wars ever.

Started watching Local Hero last night. I think twelve years old was being generous. It's like trying to watch young Sean Connery *pulls face* some people were just meant to be older.

I realized I have seen "In the Loop" so I am familiar with that site of Capaldi's work! I am oleased they went with an older actor, and I'm looking forward to his interpretation of the Doctor!

The model town in the second video (hilarious! thanks for posting) is that the same town as in Doc Martin?

Does he say "space hairdresser"? I know he doesn't, but I can't tell what he's really saying. I got the 'tin can pal and a peddle bin' part and the rest but the beginning is ... difficult to parse!

ETA: Also, every time I hear "Frobisher", I think "Large talking penguin"...

I've adored Local Hero since I first saw it back in the '80s -- and you're right; he does look about twelve. But he's wonderful and I'm thrilled with the choice.

Ah, okay, so it WAS space hairdresser... :D

Ha, I saw the "Can anyone stop this man from swearing" clip too. "If I tell you to fuck off, then what do you do?" "I ... eff off?" "You'll go far."

Yeah, and it's not like I've read/listened to a lot of Frobisher in the comics/Big Finish world, but the name is pretty unique!

It's way too long since I saw Local Hero. He is such a baby there!

Don't forget how amazing he was in the second series of The Hour. Actually, it's hard to think of anything he's been in where he wasn't amazing.

How do your girls feel about him? I'm assuming the Cherub knows nothing of Malcolm Tucker!

(Pedal bin! Hee!)

Thanks for these clips! It's too bad Moff won't be able to write stronger language for DW. ; )

The thing that's really amusing me right now is that this sort of utterly-cracked-but-still-sort-of-logical description might work excellently for the Doctor.

Doctor: No, it's like one of those thingummies you lot buy for no reason. The ones that hatch into shopping carts.
Clara: *gives him a look*
Doctor: They've got Big Ben in them!
Clara: I am actually a little worried that I know you're talking about snow globes. Shopping carts?
Doctor: Where do you think they come from?
Clara: But they're—you know what? Never mind. How is this situation like a snow globe?
Doctor: Every time things settle, someone on the outside gives it a good rattle. That's why everything keeps changing. Someone keeps shaking us up.

Me. I just made it up.

Or are you talking about the conceit that snow globes hatch into shopping carts? That's Reaper Man, by Terry Pratchett. Snow globes hatch into shopping carts, which are larval shopping malls. Also, swear words are coming to life and following their "mommy," a particularly foul-mouthed wizard. It's that sort of book.

Oh, dear. As a major Banks fan I knew there was a TV version but I've never seen it; I might have to make a point of it now. (Also somewhere he read an audiobook version of The Bridge.)

I think Doc Martin is set in Cornwall, IIRC.
