Bitty Buffy!

Isn't YouTube a fabulous thing?

Unaired Buffy Pilot

Lots of different actors - different Flutie, chubby 'Willow' (who looks like she's 16 going on 40. I know a lot of people don't like AH, but Willow wouldn't have been the same without her... can you imagine this girl turning dark?), no Jesse, no Angel. Lots of extras (like all the various groups that Xander points out).

Completely different library (and I love the way Buffy flips down the tall stairs), Giles is a delight and there's a lot more back-story to Buffy, but less about vampires. The storyline is a lot simpler - no Luke, no Master, no Harvest. Quite a few cool scenes with Buffy, and she seems to be lost in thought a lot, and yet to relish her powers more. Not quite as closed off as she comes across in WttH.

Was there more? Can't remember and I also have to run. Will do my best to catch up with comments asap.

Hmm, I'm not a Willow fan as you might have guessed*g*, but ...
Well I wanted to say I preferred this girl, but watching the pilot, I fairly had to say I didn't. It's not her looks, I personally would have preferred a chubbier Willow. But her acting felt a bit stilted to me.
(then again, so did that of most of the other actors. Can I say thank you in regards to Nicholas Brendon's improvement once the series actually started shooting...)

Of course, it's only one ep with her, and I'm sure that had she had the character for longer, like the others she might have gotten better, who knows.

((and hey, us chubby girls can go dark, really...
You do not want to be in the way, when the last piece of cake is standing in the middle of the table*eg*))

Either way, I'm really glad they added Angel. I really don't think the show would have been half as good without at least one non-villain vampire in the main cast. It's a thing*eg*, I needed at least one supernatural character to root for.

It was a pitch Wheadon made to the network to get the greenlight to put the show in production. You can see the things he saved (Cordelia/Harmony etc) and what he changed casting wise for the actual first ep of the show.

What fun!! Thanks for pointing it out!

you know, I really miss Julie Benz' catholic school girl look. That really made her character for me in the pilot. I was glad, later on, when she finally got to wear something else, but in the pilot, I really liked that part...

Well...no, but I cringed my way through the version we DID get. I can't imagine much worse. I've vocally aired my dislike of AH and i think she proved her lack of range in that very storyline. I always felt she was on the brink of giggling and doing her breathy-stutter-speak.

I agree about Willow - it's hard to define exactly what AH brought to the role, but she seemed to fit it so much better than the pilot 'Willow' ... although guess some of that might be me being swayed by AH making the role her own since.

I hadn't actually realised Angel was missing when I watched it a while ago ... I can't remember how much he appeared in WttH, but obviously not enough for me to miss him *g*
