Hello all. No new chapter today! Mostly because of work...

Cut for rambling and 'spoilers' for the [projected] length of Dating )
elisi: (We are married)
Funny thing, but this issue wasn't mentioned ONCE at work today. But then, our used-to-be-straight member of staff was merrily kissing/flirting with her girlfriend, so it's kind of a non-issue... As it is for most people I suspect.

(They are ADORABLE and terribly happy. Brightens my every day. ♥)

Sorry I keep dipping in and out. RL is eating me alive in ways that are very exhausting. I'll get back to everyone eventually (and there are things I want to talk about), but it might take a little while...
elisi: ('To Family' by glenien)
Hello everyone. Life has been ridiculously rushed. Hopefully things should calm down a bit now, and I might actually post again. /o\

Anyway, RL has provided me with two new baby nieces - one of them 5 weeks old, the other 5 days. They are incredibly cute, as you might expect. Got cards & chocolate & flowers this morning which was nice. Oh and croissants for breakfast. :)

Work is throwing new stuff at me, and I (and two others) are now responsible for Important Things, which means a TON of work, because the area has been woefully neglected, and there's lots and lots and lots of organising and updating to do. But I like having my own thing, and it's also just impossibly helpful to be able to answer so many of the questions that I just had to forward before.

In family terms, then I wish I had a TARDIS so I could do some time travel & keep on top of the housework. We did up Miss M's bedroom a few weeks ago (and it is now LOVELY with a new carpet and a pretty new colour scheme), but unfortunately the rest of the house suffered. I'm attempting to be SuperWoman and sorting it all, although first of all I shall go finish editing fic. Because I need priorities or I'd go insane.

Realised that I've not actually written anything about my new job. Basically I like it very much. I have nice, supportive coworkers, a friendly work environment, the work itself is interesting, varied and challenging, and I'm beginning to get my head around it, which is good.

The only downside is how much it cuts into my LJ time and all the half-finished fic/meta languishing on my hard drive... But that's life. I'll get there. :)

First day of work was lovely. Everyone is really nice and the work is interesting and varied and I'm looking forward to getting to grips with this properly. (Brain slightly fried, hence brevity...)

~~~
However, I then came home and discovered that [livejournal.com profile] such_heights and [livejournal.com profile] purplefringe had created a MAGICAL vid that you should ALL WATCH!
This show! Oh this show. It just glows. It is beautiful and magical and absolutely, truly, a fairytale. And the metaphors... Oh those metaphors. I can't even. Just watch the vid. ♥
So, about this time yesterday I was feeling all 'Woe is me, clearly I am unemployable' (job hunting is SO BORING), and now I'm starting work Monday morning.
*blinks and tries to get head around this development*
It's not the job I really really wanted (it was a long shot in any case), but it pays better and is perfectly nice, so that's OK. ETA: It's a admin/customer services thing, which suits me well. :)
So, yeah... all change.
ETA2: Specifically, it's dealing with, and responding to, e-mails. Darcy marvelled: "Well if there's something you're good at, that's it! Really, the last few years have been excellent training, rather than a waste of time!"
*is chuffed to bits, and not a little smug*
Applying for a job that you really, really, really want is completely different from just 'applying for jobs'.
I'm kinda terrified of jinxing the whole thing by talking about it here, but all good vibes, prayers, thoughts etc would be deeply appreciated.
(It's such a nice job...)
Because I am useless at talking about RL, I've not yet mentioned that I volunteer at the local community centre once a week, doing admin support stuff. (Lovely place, nice people, new things to learn, looks great on my CV!)
Now a few weeks ago I thought I'd hit the pinnacle of delight, since they 'paid' me in potatoes! (5 kgs. Nice.)
Today, however, I MADE A DALEK! There will be photos tomorrow, oh yes.
(Darn I wish they could afford to employ me properly...)
So. An update of sorts.
Surprise!Temp!Job was supposed to be for a week only, except they are looking to replace the girl I was filling in for, so it might become permanent... Don't know anything for certain yet, but they want me back for tomorrow at least, so that's promising.
It's a very nice job by the way - I'm basically a receptionist, answering phones, logging calls and mail, plus filing and assorted other stuff. The company is an engineering firm, so they make useful stuff which pleases me, and everyone is very nice (only about 10-15 people work in the building). The only awkward thing is that it's on the other side of town, and if I get it permanently getting the kids to school is going to be DIFFICULT and will requite a lot of juggling. But still - fingers crossed!
~~~

In other news the next chapter of My Immortal 2 is FINALLY behaving, so you might see that in not too long. I can't remember anything, ever, being that awkward to write. (Even when I was writing the draft back in November I didn't finish that particular chapter and went on to the next bit...) Let's hope Guinness is right and that good things come to those who wait! *g*

One of the agencies I'm signed up with just called and I'm temping this week. REALLY ought to have a Donna icon, although I'm not exactly a super temp, just exceedingly nervous. Wish me luck!

*runs off to put on OFFICIAL LOOKING CLOTHES*

(And I was going to work on my WIP today...)
