Dear [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch:

Happy Birthday

No plotbunnies came my way (and also I haven't had the time to write recently), so instead I tried to find you a few goodies. These are probably all familiar, but if that's the case maybe we can get Illyria a few more followers! ;)

Illyria Trailer.
Many, many wallpapers.
One very neat wallpaper.
Illyria The Great. (I think you'll like this place!)

Have a wonderful day! :)

I painted today! For hours!!! [livejournal.com profile] buttersideup try not to faint! And I swear I'll finish this painting as soon as I can - I cannot believe I've been so slow! ::is pathetic::

For anyone wanting a laugh, I can recommend White Trash Christmas. Rather late I know, but still funny!

This is a very good gift idea. The best thing I've ever seen for 'those who have everything' - and you help people too. :)

I'm here btw, just very busy and when I *do* have time I try to write! Also I'm loving [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5, it's like a wonderful treasuretrove.

First some recs, since I am *incapable* of enjoying something without telling others about it. This is a source of continual annoyance for Darcy, but (I hope) a bonus for you...

Via [livejournal.com profile] buttersideup: The plot of Serenity told with photoshop hand puppets. This is fantastically funny and had me giggling like mad. Very, very spoilery (obviously)!

Via [livejournal.com profile] zimsham: alternate Serenity DVD covers. Fan-made and most of them utterly gorgeous! :)

Via [livejournal.com profile] petzipellepingo: Pirates of the Caribbean trailer. Oh yes! :D

There was probably more, but I can't be bothered remember. The weather is *horrible* - grey and rainy and cold and nasty! I took some photos for [livejournal.com profile] wild_photos the other day (when it was sunny and frosty) but I accidentally wiped them off the camera, so I'll just use some old ones instead, since there is no way I'll have time to take any more before Sunday. (And [livejournal.com profile] poshcat - why haven't you signed up yet? Go on - you said you would! ::is nosy::)

In other news - the baby is cutting her first tooth and is *grumpy*! She still sleeps at night though, which is what matters. But we do get shouted at a lot during the day... and she's only 10 weeks old!!!! Poor thing. (and poor me...)

I keep writing fascinating posts in my head when I'm away from the computer, but once I'm here, I just forget/have no time. So I will run again. And hopefully *tonight* we will get round to putting up Christmas decorations. Last night - meh, too long and boring to explain.

elisi: (Manny - Black Books by iconzicons)
To all those of you in America: It's Black Books! OK, so it's not released until January 10th, but you should order it NOW! I swear you will never regret it!

'Black Books' is one of the BEST EVER English sitcoms - I still remember watching the pilot and loving every little bit to pieces. And since I'm in a hurry, I'll just copy a review off amazon that summerises the show rather well:
Black Books is a second-hand bookshop in London run by an Irishman named Bernard Black. He is probably the planet's worst-suited person to run such an establishment: he makes no effort to sell, closes at strange hours on a whim, is in a perpetual alcoholic stupor, abhors his customers (sometimes physically abusing them) and is often comatose at his desk. Help comes in the lumpy shape of Manny Bianco, a hairy, bumbling individual who (almost by osmosis) becomes Bernard's assistant. Manny is not exactly great at the job either but he is a million times better than Bernard. Next door is Fran, an anxious, frustrated woman who runs a sort of new-age shop selling the most unlikely bits of arty junk. Fran is friends with Bernard and, through him, with Manny; together the trio become embroiled in escapades that are sometimes extreme or violent or fantastically ludicrous, and always bizarre.

For my UK friends: DVDs available here! I found my icon in this post. There be many more... :)

I keep forgetting to rec this:

You should all watch 'Broken News' 9.30pm BBC2! Very funny rip-off of all the 24 hour news channels - and little local news too! Actually you should record it, as the rolling news at the bottom are just as funny. :)

Almost a post per day - and to think I was worried I wouldn't have anything to say. ;)

At the moment I'm mostly jealous of the large part of my flist that was able to go see James in London... and not just for James (although James doing Macbeth? Squee!) but for the whole 'meeting friends and talking fandom stuff'. I'm busy reading all the posts, [livejournal.com profile] frimfram's being a lovely example: Lies My Fandom Told Me.

The children are still at home, since it's Teacher Training Day today, so no peace until tomorrow. And I'll need that peace since the baby's baptism is on Sunday and my parents are coming (yet again!). But this was the only weekend they were able to come (otherwise it would have been April. Long story.), so we had to hurry up and get organised.

But the weekend hasn't been unproductive. Darcy took Friday off work (and we went to IKEA, yay!), and spent most of the weekend tearing down the old fireplace (worryingly easy, it wasn't very well put in) and putting up the new one. It's looking mighty pretty and I'll post a picture as soon as the iMac is working again. (Will also have a look around for a picture of the old fireplace. It's wasn't really a splendid feature, so I might not have one).

Anyway, I thought that to mark the 'special occasion' I would transcribe the start of Little Miss M's latest book. This is the third one in a series, only she hasn't actually finished #1 and 2. (#1 is missing - I'm still hoping to find it). The books are about a teddy bear called Charlie and his little pig friend called Barnsly (I think that's how she spells it). The series is called 'Charlie's Investigations' (why yes she does have a very large vocabulary for an almost 7-year old! *g*). Here is what she has written of Book 3 so far (transcribed with original spelling and punctuation), although sadly without the cute illustrations:

Charlie's Investigations
Charlie and the Medieval Murderer.

Mystery

?
