Had a lovely evening last night. There was *nothing* on TV (and we got bored of saying rude things about the male figure skaters' cosumes), so Darcy decided that watching a bit of early Buffy (i.e. funny, not depressing) would be a good idea. :) So we watched 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered' (which I'd completely forgotten was a Valentine's episode!) and 'Passion'. Much fun and much angst and OMG-Angelus-is-such-a-bastard!!! And they were all so young and innocent and just generally lots of 'aaaaaw!' Oh and anyone who thinks that Xander was this really swell guy who was ruined in the later seasons is *delusional*! Read more... )
Also I found it very interesting that everyone keeps calling Angelus 'Angel' - even Dru does it. The only one who goes with 'Angelus' is Spike. (Oh and seeing Dru wheeling Spike away from danger in the factory fight scene was for some reason incredibly funny.)

What else? The Baby is now 4 1/2 months old and very chubby and cute and she can *almost* roll over.

Before I run, just a couple more things...

If you're after a slightly different Valentine's fic, try Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show (Buffy & Connor). And it's wonderfully short! Part of [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight's Valentine's Fluffyton.

Joss speaks again. And cracks me up. What is it about that guy and puppies?

ETA: I completely forgot this! 'Arbitrar of Quality' (who is watching BtVS for the first time, unspoilt), just reviewed 'Ted' and thought it the best ep. of the series so far! You can find the review here if you're interested, but rememeber not to spoil him!

ETA 2: Sorry I'm so bad at commenting on all your lovely posts. But time isn't my friend!

I changed my default icon for the day - isn't it cute?

Anyway, I *will* come bearing fic later, but I thought that it'd be nice to make a round-up post of all the nice things people are posting today! (I will try to update during the day if possible, but I might be too busy. We'll see.)

So, what's happened so far?

[livejournal.com profile] stir_of_echoes has made a laugh-out-loud (seriously! Do not drink whilst reading!!!) Spike and Angel scrapbook with a few 'missing scenes' from TGiQ. Um, if you are *completely* allergic to slash you should probably stay away... *g*

[livejournal.com profile] kathyh has posted 3 utterly stunning Spuffy wallpapers. (S5, S6 and S7.)

[livejournal.com profile] femmenerd has written S/B/A - Three utopian!drabbles that you should really, really go read asap! :)

[livejournal.com profile] hesadevil wrote 2 Spuffy drabbles. *happy sigh*

[livejournal.com profile] poshcat has had one of the best ideas ever and given us all a chance to post a goopy classified ad on LJ! Yay! :)

[livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight has organised a Valentine's Fluffyton. There should be something for everyone! :)

~~~~~~~~~
If your reaction to all this soppiness is 'Bah! Humbug!' then [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch's anti-Valentine's drabble might be for you!
Also, [livejournal.com profile] mbangel10 has posted 10 Ways Dick Cheney Can Kill You. Nothing to do with Valentine's but very, very funny!
I seem to have acquired quite a few new friends recently, so I thought I'd take a moment to say hello and welcome! Dark and cliff-hangery fic is sparse on a day-to-day basis I'm afraid, so instead I will try to point you toward various goodies that I have come across recently:
First a ficlet from [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds: Time is the Fire in Which We Burn. Set sometime before Drusilla meets William, this is a fabulous, amazing little gem! (I'm always hugely impressed with people who can write Dru.)
[livejournal.com profile] eyesthatslay has just posted a batch of 'House' icons. Wonderful (as usual).
Also: Scooby Road. Need I say more?
For those of you with iconing skills, this might be of interest: [livejournal.com profile] get_a_cape: 'Icon Challenge for Underappreciated Characters of the Jossverse'
And for writers, here's something brilliant: [livejournal.com profile] banner_grab. It's a place where authors who've always wanted banners for their work can go and make a request.
I think that's all... shouldn't be here really, but I don't think anyone's noticed yet. ::looks around worriedly::
On the fic front, I don't really have anything happening at the moment except my Christmas fic, the third (and last) part of which gets done line by line when I have some spare time. Oh - but I *have* written some more Spike/Dawn (that I intend to post sometime next week). For new friends, these are my very private little stories that I still can't really believe that I'm writing, and that are therefore filtered to stop half my flist from being squicked out. (In case you're interested it's set in an AU where Buffy wasn't resurrected. Beautiful, but disturbing. And my only attempt at NC-17. If you want to be added, please let me know. /end gratuitous self-pimp.)
ETA: I should probably add that I'm a Spuffy girl through and through. I just got saddled with a kink...
I've had very little time for reading recently, but I found time for these two (from [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy) - both S6 Spuffy, but very different in style and content:
Hiding In by [livejournal.com profile] sharelle is sort of a long FitB from 'All The Way', with the most wonderful early S6 S/B friendship. It's the fic-equivalent of a big, soft, snuggly blanket.
Ten Reasons to Change or Simply Stay the Same by [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan is probably best described as a series of vignettes showing some of Spike and Buffy's thoughts following the break-up in 'As You Were'. Beautiful, lyrical, honest and angsty, I love this to pieces.
Now go read - if I can find the time then so can you! ;)
Wishing a
Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] spikewriter
the wonderful person who got me completely hooked on fanfic when I first started looking around. The story was Watchers' Diaries. The Apocrypha, which just knocked me out completely! (If there's anyone who has not read this wonderful fic, you should do so right now!!!!!) Have a brilliant day and good luck with NaNoWriMo! :)
Well, what I'm trying to do is to rec [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan's [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_spike fic, 'Til The End of the World. Post-NFA, with Buffy, Spike & Angel... but who ends up with whom? Very delicious! Go read! :)
Oh - and a question about rating fic: What rating would you give a fic with no smut whatsoever, but a good deal of swearing? PG? PG-13? I'm hopeless at these things I'm afraid.
First a massive big
Thank you
to all of you - yesterday was just such a brilliant day and I'm still walking about with a big silly grin on my face! :D Virtual baby showers are the best! (Also it gave me a good excuse to do very little except hover around the computer - always good!)
But today there is a birthday, so let me say:
Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] mickeygs
I hope you have a brilliant day - and for once I guess I can wish someone a Buffy-shaped present! :)
Today is also mine and Darcy's wedding anniversary - 8 years already! Although it sometimes feels like more... anyway, no great festivities tonight since he's laid up in bed with a tummy bug! I guess it's a nice reflection of the whole 'in sickness and in health'.
But nevermind - we'll do the whole romantic dinner another time (and our babysitter's gone on holiday anyway, so it would have been difficult tonight!). To return to a happier subject, the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan wrote me a little baby shower fic. And I thought it'd be nice to share it with you all - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :)
My fic from LM )
(Also note the brilliant icon that [livejournal.com profile] kathyh made for me! And my new default one was from [livejournal.com profile] fer1213... baby toes! :) So much loveliness all for little me!)
[livejournal.com profile] summer_of_spike is a most wonderful thing. If not for this community I might never have read this fic! It's called Unfinished Business (by [livejournal.com profile] annapurna_2) and you can find chapter 1 here. It's Spike & Angel friendship + Spuffy (NC-17! But how!). Do go read right now - 6 wonderful chapters and I'm currently praying that some day there will be a sequel! :)
Should probably add that the story is *very* good, the writing brilliant and the characterisations excellent!
First: [livejournal.com profile] jenjojen finished Falling Debris. And oh - what an ending! If there is a Spuffy fan out there who hasn't read this story yet, then they should go do so RIGHT NOW!!!!!! (There's still an epilogue to come, but those of you who don't read WIPs should be safe with this one!)
And second... for ages I've wished that someone had written the story of how Spike and Harmony met. And then - thanks to [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_spike - I've read two in as many days! :)
The first one is by [livejournal.com profile] spikesdeb and takes place just before 'Out Of My Mind' with Spike on a rather unhappy trip down memory lane! Lovely insights into the dynamics of the S/H relationship and very funny too! 'Wrong Place, Wrong Time - Just Plain Wrong': Part 1 and Part 2.
The second is by [livejournal.com profile] bookishwench and one of the funniest things I have *ever* read. Seriously. I was glad no one was around when I read it, as they'd think me demented for laughing so much! Now go read: When Harmony Met Spiky (set just prior to 'Harsh Light of Day').
Hello - I'll not be around much today or tomorrow since we're having visitors (my mother's cousin and his girlfriend) and I'll be busy tidying/entertaining. But I thought I'd do some recs before I 'leave' since these are some stories I've enjoyed immensely!
[livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan wrote a truly great fic, set prior to the events of FFL and LMPTM. That is New York, 1977: Triangles Are Falling. Not sure how to describe it - just go read!
[livejournal.com profile] calove is in the process of writing 6 William ficlets. So far 3 have been posted, and I can't praise them enough! On Parliament Hill: 1862, 1879 and 1880.
Must also rec [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues, [livejournal.com profile] ladywenham and [livejournal.com profile] fer1213 who have all started new WIPs, but I'm sure you're all aware of those!
(Also I posted Chapter 14 of 'Maybe Someday' in case anyone missed it... so far only 5 people have commented which I have to admit is a tiny bit disheartening... maybe I'm just greedy? *sigh*)
