elisi: (Maybe Someday by buttersideup. All Mine!)
This is mostly going to be a squee-post, because [livejournal.com profile] buttersideup made me the loveliest icon for my WIP 'Maybe Someday'. Isn't it gorgeous? ::does The Numfar Dance of Joy:: It's got the flaming hands and everything! :) Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Actually, life has been really nice these last few days. Yesterday the weather was lovely; all sunshine-y and warm, so we spent a great deal of time in the garden. Also at midday the parents-in-law took the children away, and Mr. Darcy and I had blissful hours to ourselves! :) In the afternoon we went for a lovely walk in the nature reserve that backs up to our garden (and also provides us with a beautiful view), with was just wonderfully romantic and brought back all sort of memories of when we first met. *nostalgic sigh*

As an extra bonus, when children finally came home they were wearing new shoes (from Clark's!), which made us particularly pleased! Shoes are expensive!!!!

Today we went to Hobby Craft and bought lots of arty-crafty things for the children (and us), so we'll all be very busy making Easter decorations tonight.

In other news I've nearly finished Lynne Truss' 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves' and I absolutely adore it! I never knew, but punctuation is a fascinating and interesting field - and also hysterically funny. I can't remember the last time a book made me laugh so much. Will try to do some sort of proper review once I'm finished.

Was there anything else? Oh - I completely forgot the whole 'appreciation' thing from a short while back, so let me use this opportunity to thank everyone:

My wonderful beta-readers [livejournal.com profile] kathyh and [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan. My writing has improved immensely from your wonderful skills of observation, and I cannot understand how I ever coped with out you! If I was rich I'd shower you with gifts!

My lovely readers: You have no idea how much I appreciate you. I'm still trying to get used to thinking of myself as a writer, but knowing that there are people out there who actually read (and seem to enjoy) what I write makes all my little efforts somehow seem worthwhile. And also your feedback feeds an addiction I never knew I had.

I guess I finish as I began - by saying thank you to the brilliant [livejournal.com profile] buttersideup for her most wonderful icon! ::hugs::

I've been rather busy these last few days, and now I'm very tired, so I'll just do one more writer, and that's it:

[livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna is not a very prolific writer, but (as you probably all know) she has an incredible way with words and a beautiful understanding of the characters of the Buffy-verse. Add these together and you have wonderful fic!

Her website Always The Coat has all of her finished stories, and you should really, really go there right now and read everything she's written. She has some funny, silly stories, but it's her wonderful Spuffy fics that I adore. All S7 (except one AtS S5 re-union one) and she manages to capture all the beautiful nuances and frailties that are S7 Spuffy. My favorite is possibly Still The Night, which is almost more poetry than fic, but I also love Resolution which is a New Year's story, with Buffy looking back at years gone by and also wondering about the future. Both post-Showtime.

But if you only have time to read one fic, you should definitely choose Last Step, which is one of the most perfect S7 fics ever. Just read it! It's the sweetest of Spuffy fics, but without being schmoopy. Hmmm, well not too schmoopy.

I've been thinking about this, and like many others I know that if I tried to compile a thorough list, I would inevitably leave someone out. So instead I'm just going to rec the first authors I ever read - those that hooked me on fanfic so thoroughly that I doubt I'll ever be able to give up. Which fits rather well with my first two choices. So, since I never got round to posting yesterday, I'll do two this time round:

[livejournal.com profile] kallysten. Her site Divagations has all of her stuff, but the fic that made time disappear was her 'Childe & Sire' saga. I don't normally like Vamp!Buffy fics, but this one just works for me.

And then there's Kimi - or [livejournal.com profile] nashvillain615. I adore (nearly) every single thing she's written and if there's anyone out there who's not familiar with her work, they should go here and remedy that asap! My favourite stories are probably her post-Showtime fics Healing (Buffy's POV) and gnilaeH (Spike's POV). I swear this is canon! Read them NOW!

(Oh, and look at my lovely icon, made by the talented [livejournal.com profile] killmebecomeme!)

Ok, this is going to be really quick: Read [livejournal.com profile] ginmar!

I think most of her stories are on allaboutspike (including her wonderful post-Chosen WIP, 'Ever After'). Go on, have a look!. And she writes really good smut!!!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] mikeygs linked to two more stories in his comment. Do read!

This is apparently fanfic appreciation week, so I'll start my week by praising [livejournal.com profile] spikewriter! I was cautiously dipping my toes in the fanfic waters when I came across her 'Watcher's Diaries: The Apocrypha' (Spike and Giles corresponding during S6) and it just completely blew me away. I then went on to devour everything she'd ever written! If by some bizarre fluke there is someone out there who hasn't heard of her, they should check out her site now: Missives From The Hellmouth.

(Not writing anything anything about Mother's Day etc. Just had an argument about fandom with Mr. Darcy and am feeling rather grumpy as a result. ::clings to LJ and fellow obsessives::)
