Don't ask me why, but I finally got back to this 'verse. I know I have like three readers, but that's more than nothing! ;) And it's nice to just write and lose myself in another world.

Basically each story in 'Stepping Sideways' is a visit to a different universe/character, allowing the Seeker to be seen with fresh eyes by his nearest and dearest, this time round meeting Jack. Part of my Not the Last 'verse.

For new people - I have my own OC Time Lord and a whole verse centered around him. (He is the Master and Lucy's son and born during TYTNW.) The stories are all meant to stand alone, so please have a look if you like. I'd love you forever. <3

Stepping Sideways: A Jack in the Box )
elisi: (Writing)
People always look back at the year that's gone to see what they wrote. And from a stricktly fannish perspective, my record is, um, sparse.

I finished Stepping Sideways: Pete's World (10 chapters, Doctor Who AU) and also wrote We Might as Well be Strangers (2/2) (same AU, [profile] luckweaver wrote part 1.

And then I wrote To Missy's Credit, a birthday fic set post Hell Bent, featuring Missy and the General. (Fun & short.)

However, that doesn't mean I didn't write. I wrote *loads*, practically a novel's worth. (I should probably check the word count.)

You may remember me mentioning a story called 'George' some time last year. Offshoot of an AU, and with a single toe in Doctor Who - but that's irrelevant, it's essentially original, and may end up as an actual novel. Hence me posting it flocked to my other LJ when_i_write.

It is... well, it started out as a 'Coming Out' story, but then grew and grew. So now it's more of a Coming Of Age story, and follows George (a very very ordinary boy, who just happens to be gay, and doesn't really take kindly to being labelled and stereotyped) from age 15 to age 27. And it is now FINISHED OMG!

If you are curious to check it out, the first chapter is here (not flocked) and if you are curious to read more, just leave a comment here or there, and I'll add you back. (Yes I know, LJ and Russia and all the rest and I'll probably import the whole thing to a DreamWidth account, but right now I'm just so happy that I've FINISHED IT, that other things have to wait.)

If you *do* want to check it out I will love you forever btw. These are all MY characters (except a brief cameo from Capt Jack) and I love them all dearly. <3

ETA: So, I just checked the word count... A little over 200,000 words. Well. That's a novel. Or two. Crickey. I mean, I knew it was LONG, but damn.

Hey - please all read my INSANELY long first draft novel, crammed FULL of gay characters. (And a handful of bi, trans, etc. Also POCs. I probably screw up a LOT, since these are not my issues, but I am trying?)
elisi: (Missy)
This is for [profile] luckweaver whose birthday I managed to forget! And since I had the very beginnings of this fic I decided to try to hammer it into something resembling a birthday fic. It's not much, but it'll have to do... Unbeta'd, un-everything'd.

Title: To Missy's Credit

So, I've had these stories planned out forever. And as I - miracle of miracles! - remembered what it was [livejournal.com profile] luckweaver's birthday (OK, she happened to mention it in passing and I was like 'OMG think of something!'), I decided to see if any of them were actually fit for posting. And this one came the closest. Probably 10 chapters altogether, but short chapters!

Basically each story is a visit to a different universe/character, allowing the Seeker to be seen with fresh eyes by his nearest and dearest, this one being set in Pete's World. Part of my Not the Last 'verse.

Stepping Sideways: Pete's World )
elisi: (Default)
Last week I wrote a long rambly post about this story, trying to explain it.

The short version is - I wrote a story.

It's called 'George: An Ordinary Boy', and started out as a coming out story, but then became so much more. His family intruded a lot and demanded a lot of time, but most of this is a story about a very ordinary and quiet 15 year old boy, who never thought anyone would really notice him, or that he was anything special. (Technically it's fic, but it's *thisclose* to being original, and there's no need to know anything about Doctor Who, trust me.) No aliens, no big hero moments, no world saving. Just one boy learning and growing and understanding and accepting what it means to be himself. Oh, and there's no such thing as 'ordinary'.

So - if you're at all interested, please give it a try? (Only 2 chapters posted so far. Will post at a steady pace, but it *is* finished.)

George. Chapter 1
elisi: (Clara (FACE))
I don't really know how to begin this. Basically I wrote a story. A side-story to one of my fics. It was supposed to be short and neat, a nice little coming out tale, something to distract me from other, more complicated writing.

That... didn't really work out as planned.

A few months later the story is finally finished, but it's now 80k (40 chapters and an epilogue), and although it is still a fic, it's only very very loosely so. By which I mean - it's set in a Doctor Who AU, but you don't need any knowledge of that 'verse (or Doctor Who itself) to really follow the story. (The main thing being that includes my OC Alex, so people who like his stories might like to read this one, although he's very much a supporting character, on the sidelines. The only canon character to show up is Jack in a handful of cameos.)

What I'm trying to explain is that George, my protagonist, didn't just surprise me - his family, his background stories, opened up and revealed themselves to be fascinating. To the point that I am seriously considering dragging him out of the fic world and turning him into a 'real boy'. (When I say he/the story surprised me, I mean that quite literally. *I* was shocked by some of the revelations that appeared.)

Now there's obviously an issue with the fact that I am not, nor have I ever been, a 15 year old gay boy, coming out. I am hugely aware that I am tackling a mine field, and have endless ways of getting stuff wrong. I apologise in advance, and would be very grateful for any corrections or guidance. (Please no flames. If you have an issue with anything please let me know, but I would never knowingly set out to insult or upset.) Seriously I am pretty terrified about actually posting the story. But I love them all too much to keep them to myself.

However, despite possibly turning the story into a book, I would still like to share the actual fic, and have been pondering how to do this, as I don't particularly want to publically post a potential novel. So I decided to utilise one of my other LJs - in this case one I set up years ago for my original writing: when_i_write.

So! That's where I have posted Chapter 1 for everyone to see, although I'll post the rest flocked. So, if anyone's interested, that post (or this one) is also the place to sign up. Leave a comment, or friend when_i_write, and I'll friend you back (from when_i_write) so you can see the rest of the entries, which I'll post as and when. Maybe a chapter a day? On week days? Or something? Suggestions welcome.

(Also, although I keep saying it's 'almost a novel', it's very much a first draft, so please bear that in mind. Plus, further story possibilities are already presenting themselves. My mind, quite literally, does not know when to stop.)

Summary: George Harold Bottomley often wondered why - if he was as ‘Gifted and Talented’ as everyone kept telling him he was - he was also so ordinary. Well, except for the fact that he was gay. And there was no ‘ordinary’ way to come out; no script to follow. But he desperately wanted rules - an established, accepted way of doing it… Like a form to fill out where he could put a cross in the ‘gay’ box and it’d get filed away with all other information about him, and he’d never have to worry about it again. Sadly, the world did not work like that. At all.
elisi: (Don't mess with River Song by meathiel)
So, about 1 1/2 years ago I posted part one of this... Like all Five Times fics these stories are connected by theme, not story, although if anyone wants to read the first story, you can find it here: It’s Called Marriage.

(I do have bunnies for the other three stories, but considering how long it took for me to find an ending for this that I was happy with... Well. Who knows.)

Also, [personal profile] owlboy, this is for you! Very late, but at least I did finish it.

Summary: The Doctor is wounded, Jack is out of bullets, the TARDIS is out of reach, and there's an angry mob... Whoever will save them?
Setting: Post-The Angels Take Manhattan.
Characters: The Doctor, Jack, River.
Rating: PG-13?
Wordcount: 2281
Feedback: Oooh, you know you want to.
